I was pretty happy with how it turned out. I am sure you'll get to appreciate the mid range as time moves on. That's where I play with mine, 4th and 5th gear.

Numbers are good but yeah the feel is wayyyyy better.

I'm with you on that Gav, really enjoying overtaking people in 6th without having to shift down, plenty of go.

Quick update, did happy laps this morning and the S3 is running sweet. Nice and smooth. Coil overs are awesome on the track. could be firmer but maybe i'll look into poly and uprated arb and stuff in the future. Happy with where it's at all I need to do now is fix the window clip and get that going up and down again.

Oh yeah and it spits flames...incase anyone was wondering

    loving this thread!!!

i've just got myself an '02 model, 119k on the clock and it needs some loving too. interior was all banged up so i've stripped it and giving it a good go over + wired up for a new ICE install. Mine's also black and I was also thinking to plastic-dip my AVUS' in black so thanks for the pics! you may have a twin car in Melbourne

So you ended up getting rid of the engine not holding boost on full throttle? Mine feels like it's doing the same. from what i've read you did you changed the TIP and air filter... what else had you done to get yours boosting all the way up the range?

You should log your S3 to see what boost is being made. I always found a std S3 very dull to drive. Very lacking in power.

Hey Cheers, send some photos my way when you get a chance, what are you going to do with the interior just clean it up and put it back or update it? if you do update get rid of the heavy front seats and replace them with recaro sportster CS's

As for the boosting, its all to do with leaks and blockages in the vacuum system. tip/pcv are the main culprits! either upgrade them to silicon or look into the catch can PCV delete.
Other things to look out for etg sensor and coolant temp sensors they can mess with the computer and put it into limp mode/trim fuel ergo cutting boost.
But as gav said get it logged for errors is a good start, then if anyone near you does smoke testing its a good idea too (smoke the vacuum system to find any leaks)

Other than that yeah the stock map is poo so get it re-mapped, mine is stage 2 but stage 1 should brighten it up a bit and not break the budget...plus I think you can just send your ecu to Gav to get it done as there isn't any tweeking needed (correct me if I'm wrong)

i've found someone nearby who may be able to help with a scan so that's a good start! this is the most spirited drive i've had lol. last car was a pulsar sss so for me. it's fun but i will definitely have a look at the remap option. around how much would this be?

I bought the car with a "samco" TIP, & it's got matching IC interconnects, have done the n249 delete. took it for a spin and can't hear the DV at all... but i guess with the car not holding boost properly it's not going to make and sound right. lol
anyway - will wait for a scan before touching anything else but thanks for the suggestions!

interior wise i just worked on restoring it all as the glue seemed to have degraded pretty bad. i'm putting in a new stereo (bye bye BOSE - hello German Maestro's and a Pioneer 2750BT double DIN) because i'm a sucker for good music on the long drive to work, upgraded all the wiring along with a 4 channel + mono block & wanna figure out a stealth sub install for a 10"... somehow... once that's all done it's all going to focus on getting him running smoother

Ah this thread sheds some light on my S3 which I picked up two weeks ago!

Had a massive boost leak and my TIP has a 5cm gash in it. Did a temp repair on it before I order my new one but I also did a PCV delete and catch can install + N249 bypass and vacuum reservoir delete.
I think my coolant temp sensor is buggered (car stays around 60-80 degrees after over a half hour of driving) and I too am getting misfires due to my spark plugs.

Going to drop it off at Arthur @ Exoitcars in Sydney next week so he can diagnose everything thats wrong and then I can get it remapped and start with the mods!

Sounds like it's gonna be a fun build up, yeah a little more spirited than the pulsars (although I have seen some insane ones)

Never heard of the samco TIP but i'm guessing silicon?
The DV's are quiet on these cars unless you have a pod but you should still be able to hear it

Let me know how you go with the glue my door cards are sagging and it's killing me.

Gonna have to be a pretty small sub too really not much room back there unless you replace the spare tyre.

Yeah best to get someone to diagnose it top to bottom. TIPs split pretty easy. actually have to reposition mine now because it keeps slipping off the turbo housing :-o

My temp sensor was gone but car still got to 90 degrees...never above though...even with everything fixed.

    HELLLLPPP-

Ok ducked out to have a look as under load I get a weird chattering from the turbo...not another boost leak.

but I found out what it is.
I have to Badger 5 TIP on and the grub screw that holds the billet bit to the turbo has gone anyone know what size they are and where to get one.
Also the hose from the charge pipe to the DV what size is that as I'll need to replace that while I'm there

    Cheers in advance
