Help Needed from A3/S3 8P Owner - Dimension of Rear No. Plate Fixing Screws Req'd

    Hi all,

I'm after a couple of small favours please. I'm away from my car for a couple of weeks so can't take these measurements myself. If possible i'm after 2 measurements:

    1. The dimension between the rear number plate fixings like below (ignore the shortened section, it was the best photo i could find). Im trying to decide on a number plate size and don't want to see the holes / recess when fitted.

    2. The size of the original rear 4 rings badge like below. I want a gloss black one but would like to make sure its the same size.

Thanks in advance to any kind sole...

i have just been told by the guy at audi parts dept that the holes on all audi's are 270mm apart.

the plate i am looking at is 291mm so i'm a bit worried you will still see the recess, can anybody help me with this please?

My S3 and A4 are both 270mm, not sure if that helps you though. Can you not get a plate with no holes?

thanks mate, its not that which is the issue though. Its the fact that the plate i want is 291mm long and if you have a look at the recess on the boot lid i think it will be a similar length.

just want to try and confirm exactly before i buy the plate, think it will look shizzle if you can see the recess poking out either side.

just trying to decide on the text too, i'll pm you a couple of options i'm looking at for your opinion if thats cool.

might put AUDI00 back on the a3 or try it for sale on here if there would be any interest, not that special i guess.

mate that would be great if you could. i'm not sure if there is a difference between the 3dr and 5dr or not. i'll google for photo's and see how they look. either way it will be good for a comparision, thanks. scaling of the photo i'd say it would be close to 290mm if the holes are 270mm apart.

cheers and hope the service doesn't hurt too much!

60k service ~550. I am not unhappy. now the recess, it is 540mm wide on mine......

I dont have the little recess behind the plate like you have in your pic. My A3 is flush right across. See where you have the weld job done in the pic, that is how wide my entire number plate recess is.

I dint have time to ake the entire plate off tonight, ans missus is out in the car now. But I felt behind the plate, and it is flush across.

The audi Rings are 170mm from middle of ridge at widest point. (they angle to a ridge in the middle of each circle) does that make sense?

thanks mate, glad the service worked out for you. The badge in the photo sounds like the standard size so i have ordered that.

i'm really just chasing the size of the indented recess as i want to make sure my plate covers it, i think it will look look pretty bad if you can still see it when the plate is on. thanks for the effort though.
