Where are you from?
Hey guys,
I've just bought a 2001 Audi A3 and the owner did not have the original remote - only standard keys without any buttons. They've given me a whole host of keys and only one which they got someone to program starts the car. However there is a flashing key light on the dash which is distracting and I'd like to get rid of.
Does anyone know if I could get a transponder key fob off ebay and just get someone to program it? Or would I have to take it to Audi? Thanks in advance!

Where are you from?
I'm in Melbourne now
Probably someone has failed to code them, try readapting the keys. Although the modules did have issues around that time.

How do I do that? I do have the code numbers. The issue is I don't have any of the original central locking remotes to sync a new key with.
It looks like you are right - I think someone may have installed an aftermarket key if the below isn't standard:
if you are in melbourne i have VCDS and can match things to what they need to be matched to
what the heck is that little red light with the smiley face lol
can you not get in touch with the previous owners to ask them what is going on?
and which key light on the dash are you talking about?
is it a symbol flashing INSIDE the cluster? or is it that little red one that is aftermarket
so if it's standalone maybe the immo has been defeated?
That would be really helpful actually, I want to know whether I should spend any more money getting remotes/programming etc. Yeah they've had the car since new and don't really remember. They told me that the original remotes interfered with something but couldn't tell me what.
Looks like this:
I think the red smiley face thing and key I'm using is aftermarket. They told me they had a working remote before with central locking.
I guess I want to know if I buy original remotes whether I'd be able to use them and get them programmed
