Nice, love your work! Bumper bars really mess up Intercooler flow.....
Not often that I start threads on the forum but I did a bit to my own car today rather than someone else's...
Started off doing a Haldex oil and filter change. Just routine really, last done in 2009 IIRC and the KMs have been racking up driving to work since I moved to QLD.
Can't tell any difference with the car but I had the oil and filter in my cupboard.
The other job was fitting the FMIC that came out of my A3. If you have been on the forum a while you may remember the A3, it met a nasty end but is living on in a number of vehicles around Australia!
I have got some pipework on order which will arrive next week all being well. It's only a 10minutes job to get the bumper off, so hopefully and hour would see the side mounts out and the replacement pipework in.
I have been watching the intake temps on my phone using a BT OBD thingy. The sidemounts seem ok doing hard accelerations and keeping temps to within 10-15 degrees of ambient.
Whether the temps are like that on a track I don't know. During last summer though, heat soak was very evident when getting stuck in traffic and the it took a good few km to clear.
Hopefully the FM will help lots with that, plus some other things I am looking into as well.
I haven't got the dimensions of the IC to hand but I'll put them up later. It fits well with only the slightest of filing needed on the centre grille near the outlets. Chuffed.
A couple of pictures......
The intecooler dimensions are 450/300/75mm and the max 640mm at the outlets. It was made by ADRAD in Adelaide. There are a few dweaks in it from the prang it survived, if you look closely in the pictures the top mounts are a bit skewed.

To be fair there's not much in direct airflow once the cover is back on. I have removed a fair amount of that alloy bar. So there's an inch of clearance in front of the cooler.
The top half of the cooler ends up below the bottom on the grille, I should maybe go to town with the grinder and remove the number plate recess and everything behind it?????
Thats a decent size cooler

Good work Gav!
nice work! are u gonna plumb all 3 intercoolers together or just the front mount?
You could try but the pipe work would be all over the place. Then there's the pressure drop to consider. You get more power off boost increase, than a couple of degrees of air temp drop.
Eagerly anticipating the Fedex visit this week to finish it off. Hope I ordered enough stuff to make it work. I went off some posts on audi-sport.net but they used a different IC that was a bit wider. I am hoping for the same results from my install. This IC is a bit thicker, which I expect to have the same cooling effect.
I'll be bodging up some ducting to stop the air getting around the core.
Gavin
lovee this will be doing something similar (yet on a smaller scale) these uni holidays!
Will you still be able to run the fog lights or will they be removed?
Nice to see you doing your own car for once
