    Broken CVT

    Hi all,
My wife has broken the CVT in her 1.8T B6.
There is no drive in either direction.
It has been anything but smooth for the last 12 months. Previously has been to dealer and had ECU reset to no avail.
On saturday, it was very jerky when taking off uphill and slow to reverse out of an uphill back parking spot.

Today when driving to work about 5k from home she lost all drive, the gear selector lights flashed and she coasted to a stop.

I have now trailered it home.
Any information on what to look at and how to fix would be greatly appreciated.

    Neil

OH dear I feel for you.

When it happened to me I was quoted $3500.00 for the TCU chip and a further $1000.00 to have it installed by Audi Newcastle.

I tried other gearbox specialists and the only other place that seemed to know all about Audi cvt gearbox was ATA in Sydney.
To cut a long story short I bought a new TCU on english ebay from an Audi dealer in the UK for $300.00 AUD and had it installed and then sold the car!

Yeah flashing dash light is normally the Ecu having a spack, its inside the Transmission. Joe at ATA is the man to do an exchange box or reco your for sure , thats where mines was done. 3 yrs warranty on it, mind you i had an ecu done too. if it last 3 yrs ill be happy, thats what swung me to buy the beast, otherwise i probably wouldnt have.Having said all of this i have flashed the software on my vehicle and in manual mode its pretty insane really. We nicknamed then faultytronic back in the day. Ive done countless amounts of valve body upgrades on these, and i have all the servicing tools and filler tool which was a $400 item alone
If you have any trouble i know Joe at ATA mate
See if you can grab a code from the tranny and we will go from there mate

    Cheers

Does this make any sense Jimmy,
I had my brother Peter read it this afternoon, he has a Golf and a T5 van that you are servicing next year at Currimundi.

Yeah what makes sense there is the worrying 17114 code mate, that generally means the gearbox has went south. Double check with Joe at ATA but im sure this is the dreaded code mate. There is an Adaption process that can be tried if you have access to VAGCOM with adaption , so generally that would be a full licensed jobbie.
    As follows
    Prerequisites:

    * Ignition ON and Engine ON.
    * No Fault Codes stored.
    * Transmission Oil Temperature must be between 60 °C and 90 °C.
o If the procedure does not succeed in the first try, make sure the temperature is above 80 °C.
    * All driving and braking has to be done in partial load, avoid full throttle/braking!
    * Normally the adaptation needs to be carried out when:
o Transmission Control Module has been recoded
o Input Shaft has been replaced
o Hydraulic Unit has been replaced
o Transmission Control Module has been replaced
    o Transmission has been replaced

    [Select]
    [02 - Transmission]
    [Adaptation - 10]
    Channel 000
    [Read]
    [Save]
    [Done, Go Back]
    [Measuring Blocks - 08]
    Block 010 (in 1st Row)
    Block 011 (in 2nd Row)
    [Go!]
Check fields 2, specification is ADP OK.

    * Move the selector lever in position D and drive with partial load 20 m / 70 ft forward, then brake to standstill.
    * Hold the brake for 10 seconds.
    * Move the selector lever in position R and drive with partial load 20 m / 70 ft reverse, then brake to standstill.
    * Hold the brake for 10 seconds.

The procedure needs to be repeated at least 5 times and can be repeated up to 10 times until the measuring values show ADP OK.
    [Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

    Good luck
    Jmac
