also finally decided to chase some of that bhp/tonne and remove the passenger seat for track days as it literally weighs a tonne. I bought this connector to stop the airbag malfunction system going off...

I heard from the engine builder last week and all the parts have arrived now after some complications with the con-rod delivery. It should be in the machine shop this week and then the rebuild can start...

I still don't know what caused the piston to melt in the first place and it got me thinking that may be I should be monitoring afr. I'm not really a big fan of gauges everywhere (been there, done that) so I was searching around for the neatest option. to my pleasant surprise the p3 gauge company just released an upgrade chip track pack that will allow my p3 gauge to read afr...

    http://www.p3cars.com/shop/accessori...pack-software/

it has already arrived so I'll be getting that installed as soon as I receive the car back...

If you are handy you can get a built short-block for reasonable money.

thanks for the info but it's still not great value in my opinion...

    Parts cost $5,850 USD
plus shipping (rough guess ) $1,000 USD
Plus export fee (rough guess) $500 USD
    Total $7,350 USD ($10,850 AUD)

so approximately 11k without any head work and excluding labour. suddenly 15k without getting my hands dirty and including valves and springs sounds pretty good...

I could be way off on shipping and export fees but the usual rule of thumb is think of a cost and double it...

the rebuilt motor is back, whoop whoop...

I have only just run it in up to 4k rpm and feels strong as an ox. might not be that surprising that I can feel the difference when you look at these photos...

I think its gone from a 3 to a 4 cylinder motor, you can still see the black coating on the other side of the piston...

and the old one is not so round anymore when you look at it from the top...

What was the failure point in the end, did it lean out or was it an oil issue?

it wasn't 100% conclusive in the end, the general consensus is that the stock pistons aren't built for the higher horse power and temperatures produced when being flogged around a track. subsequently it melted...

when the fuel system was tested a couple of the injectors were not 100% which is why all injectors were replaced during the build. one of the faulty injectors was over piston number 4 (the one in the photos) therefore it could also be a factor...

lets hope the new JE pistons are manufactured from sterner stuff...

time for a small update, I rolled the guards and got some wider rubber...

first thing that need to go was the instructions...

I went with 255 which is pretty wide for this chassis...

    looking pretty meaty...

hopefully I can avoid rubbing the arches, I'm also after more camber which should help...
