thanks mate, just using it as a daily so no plans really. i have enough on my plate at the moment with the s3 and mk1 cab. maybe later down the track i might start tinkering but the 32's are difficult (read expensive) to make good power as far as i know...

hope the gti is going well, catch up soon. are you going Saturday night?

not much of an update but something i should have done a long time ago, i used vcds to set the hill hold control option...

luckily i had the abs unit from the factory that means its a simple coding process without any need for hardware, first select the abs module...

    next choose long coding helper...

finally select byte 16 which then brings up two tick boxes at the bottom, select "Hill Hold Control", save an you're all set...

it might not be for everyone but it holds the brakes on for a couple of seconds when facing uphill so you don't roll backwards before the clutch is engaged. for me it helps make the stage 3 clutch a bit more manageable on the hill starts...

and i had to at least make one visual change while i was tinkering, i installed an alloy dipstick to remove the nasty looking orange one. the final piece of engine bay bling for me (ignore the dusty motor, it needs a clean)...

i took it for a drive to test the hill hold and the car is performing really well, its almost like it knows i'm considering selling it. i know its just bs but cars really do always fell like they're at their best just before you sell them...

yeah still got it, lowered it and changed the wheels but it's such an awesome car. The hunt is on for the replacement though.
Will have to sign up for Happy Laps again, it's been a while.

after considering moving to the dark side a couple of times (mercedes a45 or c63) i have decided to keep the s3. one of the main reasons is that i'd miss out on the fun at happy laps far too much and the company of the good people on this forum...

after deciding to keep the car i've got stuck back in and will be doing a few mods i've been putting off for a while. first cab off the rank; remote gate and garage door buttons in the dash...

the dash started off looking like this...

i had numerous bits and pieces left over from when i installed the card drawer recently. that will now be removed which is a bit of a waste but the buttons will get far more use. the only think i had in the card drawer was the remote for the haldex controller which is now in the centre armrest...

i have two remotes, one for the garage and one for the gate so i ordered 2 buttons which i thought suited the remotes the best...

i've spared you photos of the boring solder process but basically soldered 2 wires to each remote switch, wrapped in cloth tape to stop the rattling behind the dash and attached a 2 pin plug on the end so i can easily remove to change the remote batteries...

once i'd finished putting all back together it looked like this; ignore the non illuminated front parking sensor switch, thats the next mod on the list...

link below to the video so you can see where the remotes are kept for ease of battery change if anyone else is thinking if doing the same...

s3 8v steering wheel arrived yesterday so thats the job for this coming weekend. it sounds like a quite an expense for not much visual change but i think the 8p wheel is too thin and miss the feel of the chunky wheel on the r32 i used to own...

I obviously don't need the paddle shifts but they can be unbolted as far as I know...

you can tell the wheel profile and thickness is slightly different in this shot...
