The Quattro revolutionised rallying. All wheel drive is so easy to do when you already have front wheel drive that all manufacturers should offer it at cost above fwd. Think of the lives it would save. My son had a Subi 4WD wagon. In wet conditions and on gravel slipping it into 4wd made a huge difference to its handling.

Yeah and with the longditudinal engine and gearbox slung in front of the front axle, made turning in very stable. Add 4wd and hold on.
