They are 3A shortblock 2Ls. They are a bored out version of the 1.8 GTI Motors in the Golf 2.

The ABA is a longer bubble block. and a crossflow head.
New Beetles have a version of this motor.

I have a couple of ABAs just landed from America. Sing out if you need.

You can use a 2E 8v bottom end and an imported head, but you need to flycut the pistons.

That's easy, you just need an old inlet and exhaust valve, some highspeed steel and a drill.

Braze the HSS onto the valves and grind a cutting edge on them, then you can put the head on the block and flycut the pistons one at a time Using your head as the guide.

is flycutting the pistons taking some of the top of the pistons off? this thread looks like its going to go over my head real soon

wouldnt it be easier to save the trouble and just use an aba block with abf head?

just making room for the valves to go down so the pistons dont hit them at the top of the piston stroke. thats a good idea preen ill have to try that one day.

U need put a stop collar on the valve stem so you dont cut the piston crown to far, and to make all piston cut outs the same ( close as you can anyway.. )
