    A4 waterpump death

Out with the family today and looks like the water pump has gone on strike. Not sure if they have a plastic impeller at this stage but as the timing belt needs replacing, I'll get one anyway.

Looks like Saturday morning is now spoken for....................

If its still the original then it will 95% certain be plastic. Only get a Kolbenschmidt or a NEW Saleri waterpump. The Saleri's are plastic but pump more coolant and they've redesigned them so the impeller wont come loose. Also, get the Vaico G12 coolant from hsy. Its the factory spec stuff, but is guaranteed not to rot your cooling system out. Tell them I sent you

I reckon I can feel a couple of pulses but nothing much really. Too cold to go and warm up the S3 for a comparison. I am going to call the pump. Although I had to top it up with another litre of water, since the last time I topped it up on the way home. That's probably down to it running hot and blowing some overboard.

Should swell up when you rev it mate. I just changed an APU engine that was doing similar but it was heating up real quick and pressurising quick. See what its like if you leave it idle for a bit, does sound like pump though, water loss due to it boiling mate which is 120 degrees if the coolant pressure cap is working so bloody hot. If cap buggered itll boil at 100.
    cheers

Not a fun job doing this outside after work. Stopped after getting the waterpump off. Need to be warm and thinking straight to put it back together. New Timing belt kit with tensioner and hydraulic damper. New waterpump and drive belt too.

Anyway the diagnosis was correct, the plastic impeller had split and wasn't turning.
