    A4/B6 1.8T Motec Advice

    Hi,

I have transplanted a 1.8T from an 01 A4 into a mid engined sports car I am building. The standard computer refuses to allow the car to start due to the missing systems (e.g air bags, abs), so am looking at installing a Motec system to run the car.

Has anyone installed a Motec system into an Audi in Sydney?

Can anyone recommend a Motec supplier in Sydney?

    Regards
    Glenn

Those modules won't prevent it from running. The immobilisation will though. Custom-Code can defeat the immobiliser at the same time, as carrying out a flash. There is an extra cost involved but nothing in the grand scheme of things.

This would be less effort than MOTEC and the following tuning that would be required.

Another option would be doing the same as Golf Loon has done with his Scirocco. That uses DTA IIRC but comes with software to up the power as part of the package.

B6 is a nightmare Gav, i looked at putting a manual in mine if the CVT goes south, way too costly for it, Engine ECU and dash cluster, if the Airbag and ABS are missing on that car he might well have dramas, you loose the Can signal, Ive just looked at Treg with Crash data , crash signal cut the start signal for the engine ECU, and if you remove the airbag ecu it still wouldnt start, it had to be physically erased to allow it to start, not sure about the B6 really but i know from conversations with the guys in the Uk they are tricky correct me if im wrong, you will at least need the cluster that is matched to an existing ecu including keys and reading spool. You could go with what Loon has or call Troy at EFI Performance 38018075 they supply many set ups, mainly for the high horse stuff but he would point you the right way if not. He is well switched on, ive attended tuning seminar that he held and ive booked well ahead for the follow ups. Give him a ring.
    Cheers

You shouldnt have too many issues running standard wiring harness with matched fusebox running engine components . You'll still need a good electrician to sort out speedo signal etc . As Gavin said immobiliser and emmissions can be deleted if need be . Just make sure you run wideband , narrowband is terrible to tune

Audi didn't sort the immobiliser out when he took it round to them. He has all the gear from the donor car.

James has done some transplants into Lotus Elises, he has done some good tunes for them. He didn't think there would be any problems. Might be different to fit a manual box into yours if the engine ECU is expecting to see chatter from another ECU.

Will get the ECU read before sending it away, to see what it's complaining about.

Interesting, how is the immob deleted????ive heard of it but havent dont it or had to do it frankly , too busy fixing broken ones personally, im keen to know as i might have a future project and that would be nice to know. I make comment about the can signals and matched clusters etc as my main experience is with orig vehicles and not slotting these things into different vehicles, so like some others would be keen to know how, any further info or links???
Cheers and thankfully something interesting to read about

I'd have to agree with most of what has been said here. Don't go to motec just yet. I think you should snag a manual ecu and a vag com setup from ross-tech. From there you can program in an out most everything you need to. And since vag com has been around for so long, the online support is quite good. You can google things like immobilizer vagcom and get all the steps you'd need.
