    Yeti sighting in OZ

A mate of mine in NSW tells me he has seen the Yeti (or what looks like) the Yeti on the docks at Port Kimbler

Not sure if this reality as he is not much of a car nut and saw from a distance, i know there are a few in Sydney for ADR reasons but i would be surprised (but excited) to hear they are here in bulk already.

    Anyone know anything about this??

All sorts of vehicles spend time in Australia for all sorts of reasons. Just because a vehicle is seen here does not even mean that that model is destined for Australia.
It's coming up for summer and many vehicle manufacturers test their products in Australia in summer under hot weather conditions.
Television and print advertisements are made in Australia for many foreign markets (the Pilbara is a widely exotic location for a potential European Yeti driver).
Vehicles can be in Australia up to a year before they are released here for location condition testing (setting suspensions and making tyre choices as well as measuring NVH on Australian roads).
Even if what your informant saw was a Yeti it does not necessarily point to an imminent Australian release Skoda have just spent a lot on the Octavia update they will want that model to settle in before the hit the press and potential buyers with another new vehicle.

The Yeti isnt confirmed for Australia at this stage. I would imagine if the car your mate has seen at the docks it would be an evaluation vehicle for Skoda Australia. It would be great to have it here though

There was a story on the Yeti in last Fridays paper ( http://www.carsguide.com.au/site/new...e_skoda_boost/ )saying it was due here in the second 1/2 of next year-are they just guessing?

That would tie in nicely with an "official" launch at the Motor Show in March, availability in June and would give Skoda another boost about 6 months after the release of the FL Octavia.

I seem to recall reading when the Tiguan was released the 125kw diesel was only available in manual because the 4 motion system and DSG box combination could not handle the torque. Is that true?

Motorshow in March isn't on. It's motorshow in October now. They're alternating it between Sydney and Melbs each year so a March launch might not be so ideal. They better get the Yeti in quicker than that - sales of that will be quite alright and it's something they shouldn't miss out on.

The Tiguan you're talking about - do you mean the Aus-spec? The UK-version 125kW I'm sure you can get a DSG (although that maybe a new addition to the lineup). I hope the Aus-spec Yeti comes with a DSG on every model! Many people are thaaat lazy!

I knew they were sharing shows but I forgot Sydney is October. I see Sydney is not until October 2010 so that is a heck of a long time since March 2009 in Melbourne. Melbourne in 2011 is July so I wonder if Sydney will move to July in 2012 to keep the 12 month cycle.

According to the VW Aus web site we don't get the 125kw TDI Tiguan. Maybe that was what I read - no 125kW because there was no auto available. The 3 models available 103 TDI, 125TSI and 147TSI all have DSG available.

AFAIK the show was ideally supposed to be alternating....but in reality the Syd show has never been profitable whereas the melb one has, hence why melb has had it again this year. I think they don't care what Syd does now and will keep the melb one going each year and maybe the syd one every 2nd year.

Knowing what we pay for conferences in the halls at darling harbour compared to melb and Brisbane, its a wonder anyone uses darling harbour anymore...service is crap and it costs twice as much.
