Thanks for the info duckster. Who exactly did you ask ? Skoda Dealer ?

I am mainly interested in the 103TDI DSG up against the Hyundai ix35 Highlander (RRP $38,490) or Kia Sportage Platinum ($39,720).

$37,990 puts the 103TDI DSG Yeti right in that ball game, provided the list of additional cost options is not too long.

I could probably wear the Sunroof at $1730 option given the Yeti has Sat Nav the others don't have, but I will be disappointed if that Yeti 103TDI DSG price does not include Leather Trim and Electric Seats that the others have as standard.

I also hope Skoda Australia has opted for the Space Saver tyre as standard equipment (or at least a no cost option). I would prefer to lose some boot space to have a spare tyre, even if it is a space saver, rather than a useless puncture repair kit.

I roadtested ix35 diesel auto before buying Tiguan. ix35 felt much slower than our Golf5TDI DSG. The suspension was very noisy and leather seats didn't have enough support. Another thing that I didn't like is the A/T diesel engine combo, some 390Nm torque and very small transmission A/T that could be a weak link, despite of 5 years unlimited km warranty that Hyundai has, I think that they just took the risk, or which is more likely the advertised power/torque numbers are not real life figures.

IMO, ix35 looks better than it drives.

I am not a fan of the look of the ix35. I much prefer the look of the Kia Sportage, although strangely the Kia is dearer (with the gap widening after the latest price increase).

I guess the other way to look at the Yeti is that you are pretty much getting a Tiguan for several thousand less than the VW price.

I just asked the Skoda Sales Manager at the dealership I work at. He showed me the bulletins that Skoda Australia sent out to the dealers around May 20. There was information about the Yeti (only the basics), Fabia (pretty detailed information) and changes to the Superb's and Octavia's for the MY12 models. MY12 models go into production in July.

Well make sure he let's you know if he gets any more info on the Yeti.

A list of what is standard equipment would be great.

The Bulletin was only a few pages long and only included the pricing, the dimensions and some of the technical data. If i can get access to the equipment list I will post it. Otherwise the brochures shouldn't be too far away from arriving at the dealerships.

Lol, fat chance on the leather and electric seat but as if it won't have a spare tyre? And as Transporter said, the ix35 certainly doesn't drive well and I'm sure the Sportage doesn't either. Sportage Platinum/SLi diesels have a minimum six-month waiting list too I might add. While there may be a similar waiting list to get your exact spec with a Yeti, the Sportages have no options so the only difference is colour - you're waiting six months for a colour and that's the only for of individualisation. The ix35 and Sportage are groundbreaking cars for the Hyundai/Kia Group as we know, but there's still some way to catch up.

The Yeti you want will end up costing $45k I reckon.

You would think a spare tyre was a given, especially for a 4x4 in Australia, but as far as I can tell, an actual spare tyre (space saver) is an additional cost option for the Yeti in every other market.

I've (briefly) driven the Sportage Diesel and I was quite impressed, although I haven't driven a VW/Skoda Diesel to compare it with.

Last I read, the wait time was now more like 2-3 months and I recently saw a Sportage Platinum diesel sitting on display in a dealer's yard so you don't necessarily have to wait. In any case, as you said, the wait for the Yeti is likely to be just as long, if not longer.

If that is the case, then I may not be getting a Yeti........

    A) It will be - that's the reason the Tiguan boot is so small. It has the raised floor to accommodate the wheel here. Imagine the criticism Skoda would receive!
    B) I was talking mostly about handling but sure.
    C) I read the report of the MY12 Sportage (which now has a more masculine-sounding horn - yes they had that in their press release) saying they've open up stock a little bit and the six-months should be a bit less. My Yeti point was that yes, a waiting list might happen but at least you'll get a car with a bit of individuality.
    D) Be my guest. But drive them all first (as I'm sure you'll do).

I hope you are right, but the Skoda Australia website quotes the usual 416L Luggage Room (http://www.skoda.com.au/yeti/technical.aspx) that you only get with the Puncture Repair kit, not the 322L you get with the spare tyre. Of course, website may not be 100% correct.

Sadly, long wait times seem to be more and more the norm for the new car buying experience these days for many manufacturers.
