    Does anybody know what the exact usable (as opposed to book tank capacity) fuel quantity is for the 103tdi Yeti?

    It often tells you in the manual what the reserve is (as in when the light comes on) Can be up to 10 L

    I don't have the most accurate answer for you but here is my recent experience;
    I drove from Melbourne to Sydney 847kms (point to point) on 54.37L in the Jetta.
    It has a 55L fuel tank...and yes the range said "0"!!!

    In the Octy I've put 56L in the 55L tank. Refuel Now warning should come on at 1/8th of a tank. Depending on how leadfoot you are it will be 120km to empty at that point - maximum.

    Being a diesel I'd take whatever the distance remaining is & use half that as the maximum left

    It's always a good idea to refuel as soon as the low fuel warning comes on. When I have to drive more than 50km with the low fuel warning on, I get always nervous.

    The Yeti quotes 62L but deep into the red section of the gauge I've never put more than 57 in after ~950km with ~70km range remaining.
    I can understand nobody having tested it out......it's not petrol after all.

    My owner's manual says "The fuel tank has a capacity of about 60 litres, containing a reserve of 10.5 litres."

    Max fill to date is 55.72, with computer range IIRC <10km. After fill, computer reports range 1000km.

    I figure the Germans would never let you runout of fuel prior to hitting zero on the range. I figure there's probably another 50-70km before bone dry after the computer says 0 range.

    So I'd say about 55L functionally usable. Since I routinely fill 52-55L with usually <80km range on the computer.

    When I got my first car (petrol), I purposefully ran it out of gas to see how much the tank would take. (With a jerry can in the back.) Not planning on doing that with diesels, though I thought they are self-priming these days.
