Skoda Yeti limitations

This issue I started in the Diesel section but I think more should know......
'Out of the box' neither Yeti will take the fitment of snow chains to the front wheels because the rim/tyre combination causes them to foul the struts.
For FWD owners you basically can't access the ski fields legally because, for obvious reasons, you may be required to fit them.
For 4WD owners, you're not much better off because you are limited to fitment to only the rears and that's a temptingly dangerous option.
The 'authorities' opt out of the business of deciding who does comply and who doesn't by referring owners to 'the owners manual' for advice on fitting them......which is really helpful when you first discover this ever so slight problem AFTER you've laid out your hard earned.
The solution is to sell your shiny brand new wheels and buy a combination that makes it possible and legal to go to the snow in the declared season.
I have a 4WD one and I hope someone can save me much outlay by proving me wrong.
To me, at least, the hand book is a nightmare to wade through and with so many listed wheel tyre combinations I'd just like to know which would be best for light 4WDing plus accessing our ski fields.

you can't fit a smaller tyre because the 17x7 rim is the 'common' problem, so you've got to go the whole hog.....please prove me wrong and I'll send you a chrissy present.

The Brits on Briskoda reckon the 16in rims are best for 4WD, because of better 4WD tire availability.

Europeans tend to run winter tyres in winter and summer tyres in summer, since the winter ones have pretty good grip on the slippery stuff.

(No snow monster experiecne with chains here - not much of a ski bunny. But did drive around in the slushy/icy stuff and light snow on the highway in a european rental car.)
