    K and N 57S-9501 Intake

Has anyone fitted one of these to their 103TDI?

I'm interested in how well it fitted and if there was any improvement? Also if it was audible and what it sounds like with the lid removed?

No, But im liking what im seeing!!!

I wonder if anyone around does custom tuning to the diesel yeti's rather then 'get a generic tune from overseas', to suit this + maybe a more free flowing exhaust perhaps?

I just pulled my aircleaner apart to see what's in there and it looks alright to be honest. Which is a shame because I was looking for a reason to 'have' to buy this one. The stock version is a true cold air intake but with that part being a bit convoluted being the only real criticism. I would like a bit of induction noise when I step on it and that K and N would provide that and a much louder version with the top removed as it's been designed to operate as well. Both ways lose the cold air intake though.

The exhaust looks meaty enough for a 2L. I'm assuming the cat is on top, followed by the DPF, then it's just a straight pipe to the muffler right at the back. Someone said the muffler weighs a ton and it's quiet without it fitted. That would make sense from my experience and it probably causes a few psi backpressure too.
The join is about halfway so the complete rear section could be removed in minutes, then copied without the muffler and straightening out those 2 right angle bends in the process. A couple of decent tips and it would look good, save some weight, might even have a bit of note and would boost quicker. It could also be returned to stock very easily.

Remember they don't filter to the same standard as genuine and for the life of me I don't know why anyone would do it and the power increase is illusory.

I had a single cab Ford Courier for about 8 years and put a K and N pod filter on it.
It sounded marvellous and the filter still looked like new when I cleaned and oiled it. It definitely breathed better at the top end of it's paltry rev range but that might have been the original filter box restricting flow?

It's for the sound, it's all about the induction roar under load.

Here's a video clip of a Yeti with a modified air intake. Hope I got the right clip?

I wonder what effect it has on the induction resonance tuning that is engineered in these days.

It's used on a N/A engine but I don't think it is when the manifold is pressurised.

I can assure you guys there is no more noise with the rear muffler removed. And no you don't get any turbo spool sound either.

I have both the K&N panel filter and my rear muffler removed.

The DPF kills any chance of noise from the exhaust.

    Happy Days.
