Well I picked this up in Adelaide early Monday morning, and spent the next three days driving it back home.
Why Adelaide? Right car, right price, and managed to get the Skoda 5 year warranty / 2.8% finance deal on it.
Well this is the first time I have ever bought a car just on the reviews, without a test drive, and I have to say I'm beyond happy with it. Peppier than I hoped, still able to handle a corner, and looks so cool in the flesh. Amazed at the attention it gets.
I'm still getting my head around all the gadgets, but must say I'm loving the DSG / TDI combination. Whilst hopping back in the GT TDI suddenly feels like a much more willing go cart, I have to admit the 103 is plenty impressive stock with the extra weight. When you read the specs of 10 seconds to 100kph, well I was ready for Miss Daisy, and whilst I'm no longer lining up HSV's, it goes bloody well for what it is.
Can't rate the cars quirky cool factor, and even when at the combined Skoda / VW dealer signing the paperwork, when walking through the various new VW's, well, I was stoked to be buying something different.

Very nice. I recently bought a Yeti 90TSI Ambition and stoked with it (came from a 6R Polo). Much better than I expected and heaps of smile factor.
I would have preferred a manual but the DSG is fine. We'll see how it fares over time.
My ongoing thread will be in the diesel section, but anyone with a DSG owes it to themselves to borrow a Vag Com cable and switch the hill hold function to "quicker". Far less obvious now!
I'm actually loving the DSG, which sure surprised me, having come from hating auto's. Needs the flappy paddles on the steering wheel, but that's easy enough.

I thought the ECU was locked and to unlock it meant actually getting into the body of it?
I would get mine tuned, the auto hold speeded up and perhaps the DSG settings altered to make it more suited to a diesel. I would have the normal setting as the sport and normal shifting much earlier and without the downchanges on inclines that 6th gear eats in manual mode.

Warranty springs to mind?
The 103 series of engines became OBD flash quite a few months ago now, they were indeed anti tune early this year, on the popular Alientech tuning platform anyway, which most ECU tuners use.
But yes flash it and VW etc can pretty easily detect that now, these newer ECU's are getting smarter and smarter. The safest way is a piggyback, but most are nowhere near a flash! As it is downstream of the otherwise stock ECU, any OBD scan won't show it up. Anyway not a tuning thread...
As I'm going to be putting a very obviously different DPF system on mine, and as you Have to flash it to turn off the regens etc, my car will be an obviously modded one. Im not planning to keep this fact quiet, and in fact am hoping Skoda make a bit of noise with me about it - if it works!
As for the DSG, I'll be putting a RDT shift on it, and these are also undetectable, as the DSG computer shows up as stock, and it both changes the shift patterns etc and raises the torque limitation, which is why I'm glad to have the stronger 6 speed over the flash new 7.
I will just put general Yeti info in this thread, engine mods will be in the diesel section.

Did one highly recommended upgrade today, changed the tiny toy plastic horns for some Hella Reds.
The stock horns are down behind the fog lights, and are the smallest, thinnest, cheapest horn I have ever seen. No wonder it sounds like Noddys car when you use the stock horn.
Now someone might actually take notice when I use it in anger!

They must have changed the horns for the latest model because mine are the best sounding horns of any car i've ever owned.
Very classy and plenty of volume.
My previous Toyota 86 GTS had just 1 horn that sounded so high pitched and pathetic you couldn't use it because it was so humiliating.
If you could post the thread for the diesel engine mods I would appreciate it.

Well Skoda Australia continue to impress. First they send me a Skoda hat and filtered water bottle for doing a Car Advice review, and I've just gotten my Skoda storybook. I must have had about ten letters or pressies by now, and that's 10 x more than VW ever sent me. Maybe that's changed, but boy Skoda are keen to impress and value their customers, at least from a marketing perspective.
I've not tried to order spare parts as yet, and my expectations are lower given some online reviews, but we shall see.
It's still yet to develop just one rattle, and I'm about to hit 10,000kms!
