Well it is the only van in the segment that was built in Germany.

VW drivetrain I'd imagine to be cheaper to service as there are many 2.5 TDIs on the market.

Sprinter is market leader so if you want to be different go LT :

I know the diff is Mercedes & my guess so is the gearbox, it's slow enough to be. Engine [VW] is good though.

The LT35 is a Sprinter....apart from the panels forward of the A-pillar and the driveline (the engine and gearbox anyway).

As for dirt....big, slow and noisy. A bit like the Sprinter....

The Brickyard has a section for LT series, you will have to join to read it though.

The LT is largly a PREfacelift T1N series Sprinter with the only difference being front sheet metal, engine and tail lights oh and the 3rd brake light! It even used the old Sprinter dash board and floor mounted gear lever. Personally I can't see the point of getting an LT unless 1:you are already very well versed on the VW 2.5 TDI 2: it's cheaper then a same year Sprinter, which I suspect it will be. Annoyingly I can't rememeber any technical specs of the LT and I did the predeliver work on all the launch vehicles!
