    Towbars and bicycle carriers

since theres nothing in here that i could see, i thought id make a generic thread for towbar talk

ive done some general googling and found it mostly relates to golfs and those wanting to tow trailers.
i actually only want one for carrying a couple pushies (total 50kg max) so i dont need any fancy cables for the canbus etc.

has anyone installed a towbar on their jetta or have an recommendations on where to get it done? im guessing pretty much any towbar place could knock one up right?

also specific to bicycle carriers - any recommendations on which system/brand works best?

QUOTE] They could but it wouldn't be legal Say you had one made up in a light style just to carry a bike

Then you sold the car to a dealer and he onsold it to someone who didn't know and towed a trailer full of gravel and the towbar fell apart and someone got killed ..

That's why they have to be ADR approved to be safe and take care of all eventualities

lol! i love your final destination movie styled chaos theory for twice removed future stupidity. exact same thing could happen with an adr piece 20 years after I sell the car when the manual has long disappeared and someone tries to tow a tractor home from the auctions or they try to put a couple peewee 50s on it cos, you know, it is a BIKE rack after all

yes theres a possibility if someone wanted to knock it up with some 2x4 but having the load rating etched on to a quality made bar and noted in the manual would probably go a long way with preventing stuff like that, heck I could even just sell it seperately, what future owners do with it is far from my contol. in saying that, I dont want something shoddy knocked up by an exhaust place but something that’s not giong to break the bank either.

So far Ive found this place in my travels and one specifically for the mk6. ADR slack jawed yokel friendly approved they also do custom kits to suit your needs, looks along the lines of what I was after

I bought a tow bar for the Bora from this company.
Product and communication with the company was excellent.
They delivered it promptly and the instructions were very descriptive.
    Would highly recommend them.
