The "spec level" of the USA cars never worried me. Much of you guys obviously have never looked at even the USA Golf - because they've always had silly interior specs in the past too (like the semi-manual 3 dial aircon and very basic stereo headunits). And the rear brakes and axle thing wasn't even a worry - there was no way VW would be that silly for the Euro (and now that Holden and Ford are no longer doing it here) or Australian markets. What was worrying me was the hard plastics etc.

Well that review puts that concern to rest. They've already got a 2011 Jetta in Euro spec, and all the concerns you guys have stated are already addressed. Sounds great.
That review is reassuring! All I can say about the American auto industry

If we get the Euro spec the engine, chassis and brakes should be ok in Aust.

So now all VW needs to do is change the whole front and rear ends and the whole interior to make it look remotely interesting.

I am sure it will keep on selling.

Almost 10 million Jettas sold worldwide since launch in late 1979.

If you took the time to even browse the article, you would have seen that they said "We drove a prototype of the Euro-market Jetta 2.0 TSI, which is identical to the forthcoming GLI except for its cosmetics."

May 2011!!! thats a long way away, i was hoping end of this year or early 2011
Had my dealer ring up trying to sell me extended warrany as they know mine is about to end.
Told him I want to update but only to the new blue motion diesel and he said 2011/12.
Current bluemotion passat in Europe is getting 1600km out of a tank so will be interesting
to see what the others get.

This quote below relates to the polo only.

“We are eager to get the BlueMotion range onto Australian roads, but it won’t happen until the technology can be offered with Volkswagen’s DSG transmission," Volkswagen Australia's Karl Gehling told TMR last year.
