You have to put resistors in parallel with the LED bulbs. Unless you want to pay ~$70 per globe for the VW ones that won't throw a bulb out warning.

Hey guys, Im trying to change the number plate light to LED and nothing i have got is working !!! I know to buy the ones with resistors for the bulb warning light on the dash, but they are still not working !! I have got $3 ones and just today got $30 ones and they still dont work. They last for about 10 seconds with no light on the dash and then it comes on. The LEDs i got today work as parker bulbs in the headlight with no warning light on the dash. What do i do and has anybody got them to work?? Please help !!
Cheers

Either do the method mentioned above, or surely some of the Racing Dash LED lights would work on the Jetta. They make them to suit various VW models such as the Tiguan and Golf etc etc. Surely the Jetta will use the same numberplate lights as the Tiguan or Golf. Ive got some in my Golf and they look fantastic and cost $45 for both. They are complete replacement light assemblies and have error cancelling resistors built in.
Here is a link to the ebay store where i have purchased several Racing Dash products: automotor168 | eBay
If you post up a couple of good images of your stock numberplate light assemblies, im happy to help you out with finding a replacement.
EDIT - these ones are for the Jetta http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VW-Passat...item41653629c8

I wrote a DIY in VWVortex.com months ago:
VWVortex.com - DIY: LED license light error permanent removal
Put some resistors from Jaycar and put any LED's you want.
Hey how did you go with the lights?
