Badges – to gloss or matte or vinyl

I know questions about badge painting has probably done the rounds more than ones about dsg problems but I thought id get an insight specifically from jetta owners since we’re a more sophisticated bunch, what with having a boot n all less about the painting and more about the visual aesthetics.

Ive had a look at quite a few examples online and thanks to the last meet, quite a few in person and came to some conclusions –
gloss - on the front looks very factory as it blends with the glossy grille. On the back it looks a bit off, im thinking its because the background is matte and not hollow like on the front
Matte – on the back blends well and looks sporty (I think it would look even better if the background was painted white) but on the front im not sure about the result on a less than sporty looking car
vinyl – specifically looking at the carbon fibre design but again I think it might look out of place on a non sports car and prob a bit too try hard in general lol

Thoughts? Anyone done away with the chrome bling on theirs?

Having a black coloured ride, Ive plasti dip'ed my rear badges black and even added a couple of coats of glossifier onto it...I reckon its suits perfectly.. For the front, I got a gloss black plastic V-Dub badge off Ebay.

Best part is that once I get tired of that look, I can always rip it off and go with another colour or return to stock chrome..

IMO go with the matt black and see how you go with it.. you can't go wrong with matt black badges..hehe

black on black...on black would def. look bad ass

i shouldve mentioned, mines white but yea, decided to try the matte black first. was looking on ebay at the swap but i already have paint and time to spare so i'll save myself $30-50. Im also planning on keeping the car for some time so not really worried about what potential buyers might think lol.

will post up some before and after shots when i get on to it, hopefully this w/e!

Have you looked at Bold Sport? They are good to deal with and have quite a few Jetta items available. I got my black emblems from them (Mk6 Golf) about a year ago and they still look great.

Jetta front gloss black badge: Bold-Sport.com :: Badge Emblem - Piano Black for Jetta VI Front Grille

Jetta front matte black badge: Bold-Sport.com :: Badge Emblem - Matte Black for Jetta VI Front Grille

Jetts rear gloss/matte black badge: Bold-Sport.com :: Black Rear Trunk Emblem for MK6 Jetta Sedan - Piano/ Matte Black

Not sure if these vinyl inserts will fit the Jetta, but they have gloss white available for the rear badge: Bold-Sport.com :: Color Background film for Rear Hatch Emblem

Hmm they look nice, easy to fit? Do they go over the existing badges?

they ARE the badges, straight swap. the inserts go on to the housing under the emblem for the rear badge. there's some cool designs out there but i wanted to keep mine clean and simple (gah, getting old is no fun at all! lol)

thanks for the heads up lucas but just ended up going the paint job. took a few pics and came across a few things that werent mentioned or were glossed over on the sites i looked up so im doing a bit of a write up to go with them

the badges look great now, got thumbs up from my mates and the missus so its winning all round!
