VCDS coding help for RNS510 Nav & Bluetooth

    Hi guys - firstly my tiggy is a 2010 (MY11) 147 - has the standard RNS510 so grabbed a new RNS510 with navigation...version H - HW 61 with software revision 3970.

    I also purchased this:

    VW Bluetooth KIT 7P6035730F - Retrofit -

so today I removed the old RNS510 and wired up the bluetooth kit (which was relatively easy) and hooked up the Ross-Tech HEX-USB+CAN Interface so I can carry out some coding. First thing was to carry out an auto scan and save it just in case I did something stupid then I looked for 19 (CAN Gateway) and enabled navigation and Telephone, after this they both appeared in the MFD - that was pretty simple I thought. For my next trick I went into Address 37 and check for error codes - see below:

It looked like to me that this was faulting as the bluetooth unit wasn't coded as it threw back the following:

Dumb question but I have searched everywhere and my coding appears to be different than others I have viewed in this and other forums so what else do I need to enable/disable as I cannot see anything else that should be - any tips, pointers etc are most welcome TIA

First thing to try is clear al DTCs and rescan.
When you pull parts out and replace them you will often generate fault codes due to detected open circuits.

thanks for the reply...just cleared all the faults codes and they came back + also rebooted the RNS510...when I installed the piggy back cable for the bluetooth the mic wire was not connected when it was delivered + there was 2 places to plug the mic into (there are 3 connectors all together) are you able to confirm which single plug the mic should connect to? - thanks

    Do the front speakers work?

The Bluetooth mic pass through should go to the mic in on the rns510

yep they all work, anyway, I removed the RNS510 so I could check the connections I did find the terminal on the mic a bit dodgy so fixed it up then I adjusted a couple of minor codes like "no sound system" (no amp under seat anyway) and "Display variant" (cosmetic only) then rebooted the unit and all is working as it should. The BT device I purchased from carsystems and all I did was to enable the telephone in the CAN gateway and that was it - interestingly if I clear all the fault codes then carry out a full rescan they do re-appear but everything works as it should...the BT in the MFD, all the steering wheel buttons (left and right), contacts (iPhone 4s) so my guess is that as the BT is aftermarket it still logs a fault but works so maybe the only way to clear this is to go to my friendly dealer (not) and hook it up to the mothership and get them to accept the faults - I have no idea?

The only issue that has popped up is the NAV (Ver H / 3970 / Ver 5 maps) for some reason when viewing the map you seem to go "off-track" and it is really slow to respond and to give your correct location, maybe a few seconds behind you in real time - I checked the antenna and all is good and have anywhere between 6-8/11 satellites at one time - I remember reading about his and was told it should fix itself over time so if anyone else has any pointers they would be most welcome
