MK4 GTI, you can't see the AFR/lambda with VCDS, so that's no help to you. You need an external wideband probe to see it.

    What's your known camshaft issue?

Is the car chipped or standard?

My advice, based on the snippets of information. Fuel filter, cheap/quick/easy to fit. A new set of sparkplugs, I have fixed a misfire/hesitation with plugs before. This is not the best way to diagnose the problem really.

Known camshaft issue on an AGU?? keen to hear about that one. Fuel cut ?? under WOT, You have a Gti Mk4, im sure itll be boost cut, Check your vac line to your wastegate. Common to turn to sticky goo and stick together and stop the wastegate opening properly, this will over boost and cut the thing big time, seen it lots on the Mk4, been with VW before the internet came about ( sorry had to drop my new line for the google mechanics and in no way aimed at you my friend, just wanted to christen it) but havent seen any cam issus.
    Good luck

    Sorry guys it's a 2006 Mkv gti -
There are "known" issues with the spec A camshaft in the earlier Mkv gti's - mine is one and I have experienced something similar to the symptoms so hence the worry :0)
Just to update I have changed the fuel filter - spark plugs are about 35,000ks old and do need a change. But the car pulls hard 1st / 2nd gear and falls flat at WOT
A scan should help isolate the issue/s
Thanks again , I won't expand upon this as its hijacking this thread !

Now we are talking about the right vehicle... You should log measuring blocks 2 31 99 for fuelling, 3 20 22 for ignition, 3 115 118 for boost, 115 112 and 118 for EGTs and 32 111 at idle to check for intake leaks.

Run the car from 1500 revs in 3rd to the redline if you can.

After a scan I think you'll be much wiser. I am in Sydney next week and might be able to help you, but I have a few others to tune first.

Did you see my email, we have that covered now.

I am pretty sure it's had something else loaded previously. I tell you what, you should try the cruise control and see if it suddenly gets a load of power... Just in case it has APR in there and no one said anything.

I will have a VCDS HEX-USB-CAN cable in a week or so. Happy to lend it out to anyone in Darwin anytime.

I've got a Micro-CAN cable in the Hurstville area, so can help out relatively recent Golf owners.
