It might work but that doesn't make it legit, yes the Ross-Tech one is expensive, but it's constantly updated and supported by the company.

To be fair normal users don't need a fully featured cable, one of those $100 plug in generic scanners probably do enough to read/reset a code. For those little tweaks you want to do it's probably far more cost effective to bail someone up to do what are one off changes since you're not likely to use it much after that. (but then I suppose we enthusiasts aren't exactly "normal" users )

    Bloody brilliant.

RubAVeeDubDub: I've had a good look at the website and Total Car Diagnostic's actual wording is very carefully crafted! I've also sought advice about this (dubious company claim) on the Ross Tech forum

Ain't nothing "Bloody Brilliant" at all about the Total Car Diagnostic's cables mentioned in this thread - because they are entirely bogus. Sure the associated software for the cable is GENUINE, but Total Car Diagnostics have simply downloaded Ross-Tech's original software(now obsolete) and applied it to fake hardware (which they claim is "third party" if you read the fine-print) for which there is no license.

Fact is that both the ver 12 and ver 14 cables are complete fakes (as suspected by the Hawk). They are both rip-offs of the Genuine version cables and Total Car Diagnostics is on Ross-Tech's "naughty list" for possible further action (I believe).

Entirely up to you (assuming that you don't have any affiliation with Total Car Diagnostics), but those purchasing these cables simply condone the theft of Uwe Ross's Intellectual Property (and don't be fooled by the notion that the buyer is somehow removed from the act of thieving because he/she are just the buyer).

Vexed: I'm not repentant in saying that I have never understood the morality of buyer's who simply ignore IP theft by prostituting their values for the sake of saving a few bucks - makes me so angry when a relatively small company like Ross Tech has built-up such a good product and a reputation for quality over many years, only to have poachers like Total Car Diagnostics trash Uwe Ross's efforts !!

The despicable actions of companies like Total Car Diagnostics only succeed because there are buyers who are willing to participate in the malfeasants!

Here endeth the tirade - but it needed to be said (I think)!

    Don
PS: I'm more than happy to debate the merits of buying these (fake) cables with forum colleagues who have knowingly made the dubious decision to purchase them - but let's do it here in public and not by PM (as some have done in the past)

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.

    Hi,

Anyone near The Hills area in Sydney have a VAGCOM cable I could utilise? I would like to do a quick code scan, allow VIM, adjust DRL levels (is that possible?) and whatever else may be useful in everyday use. Happy to pay for your time and effort or bring you a 6 pack if you prefer it that way.

    Ta.

Need help scanning error codes on Audi Q5

    Hi there,

I bought a 2012 Audi Q5 2.0 TDI and after a long drive the 'Emission warning light' is constantly glowing, the performance of the car has not compromised despite of the warning light. I will be very happy if someone is able to help me scan the error codes as i dont have the necessary cables to do so.
I live in Merrylands very close to parramatta, happy to discuss and compensate for your time.

    thanks,
    Prasad
