    OBDeleven quick question

Can somebody else borrow my obd11 then down load the app and use it if they have my pro code, or is the obd11 locked to my tablet?

    Cheers

Reedy: My understanding is that all OD11 devices are the same- the thing that makes some devices a "Pro" unit is the pro-code, which can be added later if you didn't buy a "Pro" initially.

I also understand that the complete device (with Pro-code) is registered to your Google account. So, for example - it's possible to use the same OBD11 dongle on multiple tablets/mobile phones if the one google account is used in these computers.

I've not done it, but I very much doubt that lending your OBD11 dongle to another user and re-registering your Pro-code with a different Google account will work - but I'm more than happy to be told otherwise

I thought so. I'll just give him my tablet too.

I've got obdeleven Pro installed on my phone and tablet. Same sign in on both devices and works fine. No issues. And was able to use both on my mate's car. I don't think it's VIN restricted, but it does count/add each car it is used on to the account.

Reicher; You can add/delete as many cars as you want - the present of a particular vehicle on the "my garage" list is for convenience only.

It sounds like the 'Pro Code' is only unlocking the software side of things rather than doing anything to the hardware. Assuming that is the case, anyone else who uses your device would only get the standard version on their own account.

The simple way to find out would be to try it out on someone elses phone/tablet and see if the Pro features are available or not. I know it's a vouple of months on from the original post, but did you ever try this?

The Hawk: Of course much of what OBD11 is doing is hidden behind Voltas IT's firewalls. But my understanding is that everything about the dongle (including the Pro code and the serial number) is linked to your account which is registered via your google ID.

My guess (and it's just that) is that simply thieving a dongle and attempting to re-register it won't work. But I'm not sure what happens if an OBD11 dongle is legitimately sold - how does the new owner re-register the device?

    but happy to be corrected

Interesting, maybe the pro code could be tied to the dongle then? I've considered grabbing one just to see how it all works but not having an Android device means I'd have to get one of those too.

Im a late arrival to this thread but have bought a Pro version second hand and have successfully changed it into my name. I checked with Autoinstruct who it was bought from originally and they said it was ok to do. Original owner gave me his access details and once I got into it was able to swap it into my name and email addy.
Also have it running on my Surface Pro using BlueStacks Android emulator

Had his car in the "garage" and I deleted it on my phone (swipe left) and when I open up my Surface it has gone from there as well.

It also gave me the credits the seller had in the account.

All good, all i need is the new car now.
