OBDeleven blocked

Santa gave a friend of mine an OBDeleven dongle for Xmas.
How does s/he (the friend) download the softwares ?

All I can find is this message on the Voltas IT website.

Once you get the software, the security settings on the phone/tablet need to be changed to allow an install from unknown sources. If you have any trouble getting the software let me know - I can dropbox it.

I just updated my obdeleven software after a long time of not being used.
Made some notes to help next time/s. Hope these short notes help others too.
There's sure to be a way to adapt this for Windoze and/or OSX.

Using a Linux host, download the latest apk from
https://obdeleven.com/application/OBDeleven.apk

Must have package android-tools installed (RHEL, CentOS, etc)

Enable the Android (eg OnePlus) device in following file on Linux host :
/etc/udev/rules.d/51-android-rules

use dmesg for the vendor and device ID's
Example usb 2-1.1: New USB device found, idVendor=2a70, idProduct=f003

Setup the adb connector on Linux host
/root/.android/adb_usb.ini
eg 0x2a70 as above

Connect the phone using usb cable
Enable usb debugging in Settings, System, Developer options

uninstall the old obdeleven version from the phone, else the install below will fail

From the Linux host
# adb kill-server
# adb start-server
# adb devices -l (lowercase L, not numeric one)
Make sure phone is listed

Then
# adb install OBDeleven.apk
Wait while approx 25MB are transferred to phone.

"Success" message when complete.
Turn off usb debugging if desired.

No need to do that any more at all and I never did all that in March when I got mine Simply typed the addy into the phone and it downloaded the APK


HOWEVER as OBD ELEVEN is now legally licenced to use world wide except for China it is a simple download from the Playstore
But as said you must allow other apps

Have just installed it on a spare phone took about a minute and all working

Mine wouldn't update via the Play store, so I used the legacy method above. It still works.

Have you got unknown apps allowed as i used an old phone and its fine also on my S6
