    Towbars and firmware.

    Hello Everyone,

I own an MY13 Skoda Superb Sedan. When I ordered the vehicle (Factory order) I asked for a towbar to be fitted. My vehicle was just over 13 months old early (Jan) this year and I was towing a mates boat. When I placed the vehicle into reverse to back his boat up his driveway, the reverse sensors came on and the vehicle began to make all sorts of warning noises. My mate informed me that it shouldn't happen. He told me that when a towbar is fitted, the firmware needs to be programmed to allow the rear sensors, fog lights etc to remain off until the wiring harness has been disconnected.

So on my first service, I informed the Skoda dealership (Where I purchased the car) that the firmware needed mapping for the towbar. They were not sure about what to do, so I rang another Skoda dealer and got them to converse with one another.

Since that day, I've had an intermittent problem with the rear parking sensors. In particular....one of them occasionally goes off for extended periods of time. It's only one sensor but it remains on constantly while reversing and the problem is intermittent and can be hard to pin point. (See photo below) It was starting to give me the ****s. My faith in Skoda dealers is at an all time low. I took my car to a company called Auto fidelity (Moorabbin based company) and they found that the programming of the firmware wasn't done correctly. Apparently when a towbar is fitted, you must strike the box in the firmware with Towbar fitted (X) Always(X) Sometimes ( ) Never ( )

This narrows the beam of the rear sensors so that they don't pick up the towbar. So if you have had a towbar fitted recently and your rear sensors are playing games with you occasionally coming on...have a look at this issue.

It is very disappointing when a dealer doesn't know how to fix a straightforward problem. I have had no issues with at all with Lennock in Canberra but I wouldn't trust Southern Classic in Wollongong to fill the wiper fluid bottle!

Just check, using VCDS softrware, the coding of 10- module. It's needed to be coded coorectly to the towbar, like below for example:

    Address 10: Park/Steer Assist (J791) Labels: 1T0-919-475.clb
    Part No SW: 3T0 919 475 C HW: 3T0 919 475 C
    Component: PARKHILFE PLA H08 0005
    Revision: -------- Serial number: 13991119501863
    Coding: 318108
    Shop #: WSC 33361 790 00001
    VCID: 3D5FF6FFA41131F6BF5-8068

    No fault code found.
