    Superb resale value

Just bought the most recent issue of New Car Buyer's guide (NCBG), which quotes the resale value in percentage terms in 3 and 5 years. They based the figure from redbook.

To my surprise, they have quoted the Superb resale value in 3 years to be 51%! Although I know redbook can be a bit off in their estimate, and the actual value will depend on a lot of factors. Compare to many other cars of it's class, that's not too bad! Falcodores are the worst in this class averaging less than 40% in 3 years. Toyota Aurion is at 48%, Honda Accord (Thailand one, not Euro) and Passat are both at 49%! NCBG has also removed the comment "uncertain resale value" as a negative aspect of Superb that was in the previous issues. I guess after 3 years of Superbs on the market, thy finally got some real resale figures?

I think the biggest surprise is Superb do better than Passat. I guess the reason is that VW's drive away deal on all their models is finally paying off! If you reduce your new car price, expect resale value to drop (my painful lessons learned from Magna...) So while we are here all whinging about Skoda's pricing policy, at least we have never seen drive away deal on the Superb yet, and the price is quite firm apparently, this may have helped with the resale value. So it's not all bad after all with Skoda's pricing.

Of course, this is just based on figures from books, does anyone have any experience in trading in their Superbs?

I am about to find out what the resale is as my Superb is for sale. 125 TDI 2009 Elegance sedan, silver 46k, boot liner, upgraded 126 gig SSD hardrive, upgraded high beam, VW bluetooth kit supplied but not fitted, hill hold, tow bar, Pirellis, Skoda upgraded sound system, perfect condition still in warranty. It will be interesting to see what I get for it. I am buying a new Superb wagon so if anyone is interested PM me or it gets traded. I am in Helensburgh NSW.

I have a pretty good idea what three of the ex Skoda Tour Downunder VIP Superb Elegance 191FSI (MY10 model), which were brought out here in late 2009 sold for. They were sold off through Skoda Dealers as Demos & in one case as a 'used' car earlier this year.
There were earlier build 2009 cars brought out, which were used to impress motoring writers. Original 2009/2010 RRP was $57000. These 3 were fully optioned MY10s.

The 3 MY10s I chased up, were registered in Victoria for three months in November 2009, then stored by Skoda for some months, before being passed to dealers sometime in early 2011. They were re-registered in NSW with a June date. Two went to Newcastle Skoda, one to Wollongong. They were advertised late last year for $46,990 to $49990, which seemed to reflect Ks on the clock. The one with most Ks on it sold just before Christmas for around $42,000, a little birdy in the industry told me. The other two were still for sale until March/April this year. They'd dropped to $45600 & $42,500 respectively, with between 8,200kms & 13,650kms on the clocks. Both were in immaculate condition, still in warranty, offered with extended warranty. All 3 have now been sold. The one which had the latest build date & lowest kms on it was had for just over $35k all up. I bought it. (That's pretty close to the Redbook figure.)

Note, it took nearly 12 months for these vehicles to be cleared by the assigned dealers. The 191FSI has heaps of grunt & is no more economical around the city than a XR Falcon or Holden SS. I understand that in these days of rising fuel prices, the urban thirst might have been what made it difficult for the assigned dealers to shift these FSIs. Basically the dealers were only able to sell them, when a buyer came looking specifically for the V6 4x4. On that basis, I reckon a 125TDI DSG Elegance ought to hold its resale better than the FSI, relative to its original RRP.
There ought to be a good market in the future for Superb Elegance 103TDI 4x4, but Skoda doesn't seem to even push them in the market. I've not seen any Skoda ad for a Superb in over 12 months, except in a dealership.
    Good luck.

Hmm, $35k as purchase price (which is already a very good deal!!) take 10% off as the trade-in price, would expect something in the early $30k. That's still good for a 3 year old Superb V6, as it is still >50%! So TDI should do as well if not better.

Yeah, problem is it's hard to sell. But at the same time, there aren't that many on the market, so a well maintained low km Superb should hold it's value. I had a Rover 75 before and I thought I could never sell the car after the demise of Rover. But to my surprise, it took less than 2 months, and I got the buyer from interstate! Overall, it was easier to sell the Rover than my Honda Odyssey. So a "minor" brand doesn't always equal to bad resale value.

I got a letter from Skoda yesterday. My warranty has been extended to 5 years!! It was a pleasant surprise! Consider the cost of repair of VAG cars can be quite high when out of warranty, which may account for some of the poorer resale value of VAG cars, this should help with the resale further!

I paid 38K for this car in November 2010 and as a trade from two different dealers it is worth under 20k. I am guessing the retail would be asking 25k and sell for a bit less. BTW Newbie, what age is your car? I wonder if I will get the same letter, somehow I doubt it. I hate cars, you pay through the nose and lose heaps of money but it is nice driving a good car. What prompted my reason to sell was the cheap finance deal on at the moment and the warranty runs out in October and I was told that I could not extend the factory warranty by a dealer. That turns out not to be true as I found out late yesterday afternoon and if newbie got a letter extending it then I wonder if I will. I somehow doubt that due to the age of my vehicle. I am reluctant to buy a new Superb at this stage as it is quite late in the model cycle and must be due for replacement within twelve months.

Mine is quite new, registered on 6/Jan this year. But it was ordered from July last year, which didn't have 5 year warranty at the time. I did try to push for 5 year warranty at delivery, but I was told that back in July last year, there were extra factory bonus so I could get a cheaper price than if I purchased in Jan. So the extra bonus were replaced by 5 year warranty in Jan. The dealer did say they will enquire about it, but I didn't think they were serious. I don't think I got the extended warranty cuz of my dealer. BTW, the extended warranty was just an offer by Skoda, I didn't purchase it. So in your case, it may be a bit different. However, there are a lot of 3rd party insurance company that will do extended warranty that is as good, if not better, than the manufacturer's warranty.

This is quite interesting. I always assumed I was going to be offered a pittance when I finally sold my V6 4x4 Combi. I was totally stunned when I was offered a mere $4,500 on my 1999 Audi A4 quattro (120K Km) as a trade-in on the Superb. I sold it privately for $6K which equated to 90% depreciation. The Superb was advertised as ex demo (3K Km) for $55K drive away including electric tail gate, KESSY, 3 spoke steering wheel and MIDI. I needed a tow bar fitted and had to have rego transferred from ACT to NSW so the final price was $57K. So I figure I now won't do any worse than the Audi when I eventually sell. The 5 year warranty assuaged my doubts on the DSG and even though the car is an MY11 model there are only minor differences to the MY12 so in 2019 shouldn't have any major impact on its value.

90% over 13 years is about right. I think once you get beyond 5 years depreciation is minimal (5%pa) anyway.

My 1998 Mk3.5 cabrio (125k km) went from ~$50k to ~$13k (75%) in 9 years when i traded on the Skoda.

Asked my Skoda dealer yesterday for a trade in quote on a new Superb. Mine is 2009 2.0 TDI Elegance. Excellent cond. 39k on the clock. New Contis. $27k was all they would cough up.
