    Hi Karl,

I thought about test driving the Passat R-Line Wagon (140kw diesel) but the cockpit felt cramped and off centre. Once I saw the lightness, space, and clean design of the Superb I didn't look back. And with 4x4 only available with the 206 TSI that's the way I went.

    Here little shippy shippy

I thought your butt looked familiar.

Medea, the little shippy that could, has rounded Perth. Next stop Melbourne on 24th August, followed by Port Kembla on the 26th August.
And when I say little I mean, F*ck off look at the size of that f*cker!
I'll now return to my usual composed self.
    But OMG Wow that's huge!
Bask in that sentence if you don't get to hear it often.

From Port Kembla to the ex-Ford showroom can take from 1 to 3 weeks contingent on tea breaks and sickies.

Next stop, figuring out the extra warranty and service packs, choosing a number plate, making an SD card for some toonz, and most importantly..... figuring out a name for the car.

Having it both ways, or, I want your body

The Owners Manual is a place of wonderful information.
I have been reading the PDF version of the manual in preparation of taking delivery of my big blue box.

Keeping the paint looking new is something I like to do so it's good to see that wax can be used.

Page 176 of the PDF Owners Manual
    Vehicle Component : Paint
Facts of the Matter : No water droplets form on the paint
Remedy : Use hard wax (min. twice a year), apply wax to clean and dry body

But some cleaning products can be nasty nasty things so it's good to see this warning on the following page.

    Page 177
    CAUTION
    Vehicle paint
    - Do not treat painted parts with (sic) or hard waxes.

This seeming dichotomy had me confused. Then I figured it out.
I can't use hard wax on any painted surface of the car BUT I can use it on *my* clean and dry body. And at a minimum of twice a year too!
    Day Spa here I come.

i think mine might be in the same boat. Coming to Adelaide though, i assume it will disembark in Melbourne 4 days earlier than yours. Of course its still got to make it to Adelaide from there so we could be looking at very similar delivery dates. I have my fingers crossed for 8th or 9th September because im going on a road trip on the 10th and would love to take some new wheels....

Ah thank you for a very interesting read, and also informative as soon to be relative and my daughter are thinking Passat but Superb seems to be the vehicle you like.
Keep it up, the writing I mean as you do it better than Wheels magazine.
    Kind regards

Yeah my dealer confirmed the MY17 build for me - yay!

I've been overseas for the last 5 days visiting family & I think my partner was glad to get rid of me so he didnt have to keep hearing about the impending arrival of my new toy.... Lol

Just let the dealer sell you paint protection, then you're not allowed to use any wax or polish at all, just pH balanced car wash without wax in it.

    The Servicing hall of mirrors

A bit of a long post - you have been warned.

    2 year extended warranty: $1699
    5 year service pack: $2650
    5 year Care Pack: $3899

Take off the warranty and the 5 year servicing is: $2200
An average of $440 per service.

The capped price servicing portion of the site lists the following service costs for comparison.
    12 months - $315
    24 months - $387
    36 months - $644
    48 months - $786
    60 months - $495
    Total: $2627
Buying the 5 years up front adds $23 to the cost but there won’t be a price increase. (That’s not to say what is covered won’t change).
We know that the capped price charges will change and the change is published on 1st December each year.

    So, what is covered?

The helpful dealership has provided a listing of the work performed during the 5 years of the care package.

It’s interesting to note the difference between the 2nd year and 4th year.
$399 *more* for what is listed as exactly the same service. More than double the cost of the 2nd year.

The 1st and 3rd year are just as fun.
$329 *more* for the same thing, also more than double.

One of the people I spoke to on the phone when obtaining this information commented, “we don’t get many people paying up front.”

    Anyone game to comment?
To add insult to injury, the EA888 engine used in the Superb 162 and 206 has a toothed chain-driven double overhead camshaft.

    Thanks for the above bluesup.
    Just to add on.
The service for 162TSI is a bit different on the third year

The capped price servicing portion of the site lists the following service costs for comparison.
    valid to 31 Dec 2016
    12 months - $315

    24 months - $387
    36 months - $495
    48 months - $786
    60 months - $495
    Total 3 yrs $1197
    Total 5 yrs $2478

Skoda service pack for 3 yrs $1299
Skoda service pack for 5 yrs $2650

So if you just want to service only then currently it is cheaper than the service pack (provided there is no increases in the cap service in the future).
