No updates as yet. I expect radio silence until the first week of August.

    The radio is retuned

Well, radio silence has been broken.
Mr F is moving on/up in the world and has placed me in the virtual hands of Mr S. I wish Mr F all the best in his new role.

I sit here reading of the people near Sydney that are about to take delivery of their cars, ordered within a few days of my own. I feel little envious.
I want that new car smell too! A shower with the fancy soap must suffice.

How to approach an email relationship with Mr S swims in my head. Perhaps I shall mention the need to buy some accessories. That’s a worthy opener.

    JB: I like it bluesup.

So apt for something you pull off before grafting back, when needed.
Not long to go, I suspect. Good luck on an early call. I'll flash you if I spot JB sticking up from yer new blue sup!

I followed up with my dealership the other day under the guise of wanting to know an approx eta so I can ensure the appropriate finance was available. (It was an utterly false pretense as I have no intention of financing, but it made for an excellent reason to enquire as to an ETA and the dealer was much obliging).

With any luck you may be pleasantly surprised - I was expecting a long wait as I believe you are but mine does appear to be running somewhat ahead of the original schedule - it is apparently built and awaiting shipment as we speak.

Popping out a bit earlier than expected

At the start of August, I received a phone call from Mr S. We chatted about accessories and ordering times. In my head there was plenty of time to sort out accessories as week 32 of the year had not yet occurred.

Well, fast forward to today and I receive an email indicating a landing date of 28 August in Port Kembla! A VIN was also included in the email.
Just as Enobar found his order was moved up, so was mine.

The VIN indicates MY17 so it was built after week 22. If I read it correctly it is number 013164 of a “limited collectors edition”.
Around a month from now I will start swearing (more than usual) at other road users, and driving very slowly near curbs.
Time to start reading those manuals for the car and infotainment.

Good to hear bluesup. I live in hope of eventually seeing another NT or B8 model Superb on the road.

Up in the Blue Mts last week, the car clearly drew eyes, several men doing walk-arounds while it was parked in Leura. At the resort I was staying, & in Blackheath, various people approached me in the carpark to ask about it. (I am obviously not alone in not liking FWD only vehicle, particularly larger vehicles.) Unless they'd read the name on the rear, they wondered what it was. One man thought it must be a special edition BMW! People generally don't link the chrome no-name badge to Skoda. A lot of those riding bikes do. But they think buying & driving hydrocarbon consuming cars is sinful.

A group of Indian gentlemen attending a software conference knew exactly what it was & told me the new Superb considered right up there with BMW & Mercedes limousines in India. What caught their eyes was the 4x4 badge on the rear. Apparently it is rare in India, but if it was, they say it would really be prestigious.
It is interesting to discover how people from different countries view the Superb's standing in the auto heirachy badge pecking order in their countries. It seems Lebanese rate it very highly. I'm told it is preferred over beamers & Mercs, in Beirut. Exactly what for, I was afraid to ask!

The car is a delight to drive on wet, winding, mountain roads. The Great Western Goat Track not being one of them; (local shopping traffic mixed with through traffic & trucks, trucks, trucks, constant variations in speed limit & coppers hiding behind things with laser speed guns!)

Very interesting read, thanks. You are making me want a Superb, even though I love my 4 mth old Octavia (or because I do). I am curious as to the exact spec you ordered, maybe I missed it? Did you get the Tech pack? I absolutely love the adaptive cruise, just wish it had the traffic assist.

    Cheers,

As close as I can tell, it's a MY17 Lava blue, beige interior, 206 4x4 Wagon, with Comfort Pack, Tech Pack, and Sunroof. Or, if you speak configurationlishese, a 3V54UX, 2017, BS, 0F0F, GPH0PH0, GWG2WG2, GWG4WG4
With a suspiciously shaped tow bar.

Sounds awesome! I hope that the beige leather wears well, had ivory leather in a Ford G6E Turbo and because I wear jeans to work the blue rubbed off on it, could never clean all of it off..

Did you test drive the diesel at all? When I first started I was dead set on a Passat diesel R line, but after test driving and experiencing very significant lag in both the vehicles I tried I ruled them out. There's really no lag on the 110 diesel.

    Cheers,
    Karl
