Another few months of Superb experience have passed since my last input into my 206 review.
All I can say is the car continues to impress. I have not had any need of warranty service post one to clean up the poor dealer delivery. Five months from delivery my car shows no sign of oil or coolant loss, has developed no rattle, creep or wheeze. Fuel consumption is much improved compared with the R36 in the 3TV6. I'll be interested in other owners comment, but I think Skoda's claimed consumption figures are overly optimistic, unless you drive it in a manner unlikely to pass a Series II Octavia with a 77kw motor, driven frugally. I'm getting 8.7 average, across all driving conditions!
Having driven some 7,600kms now, the car remains a delight on the open road & in suburban traffic. Like others, I am addicted to the ACC under all driving conditions. (We seem to have hoardes of Highwaymen in their 'lolly' coloured chariots hiding behind bushes, bridge stanchions & adjacent McDonalds car parks in NSW these days.)
Some time ago i fitted Conti Sport 6 tyres, 245/40 19s, to the car & had the car properly 4x4 aligned. I really do believe this has made the car more stable & precise on the road. I think the Pirellis good for the comfortable limousine role, but the contis or similar better if you 'drive the car. My car runs all the time in 'Sports' Handling & steering mode on tyres with at 38psi. It works for me, but would not suit someone wanting a smoother ride.
The one other change I've made is to the rear 'parcel tray'. The sedans hatchback does see more noise at speed in the car. I've cut & fitted black acoustic foam to the underside of the pseudo parcel tray. it is not noticeable & seems to work effectively in damping road noise. One big difference I note with this hatchback is the sudden shock of cold air entering the cabin if the boot is openned on a cold winter night. The same will undoubtedly prompt me to not open the boot at the peak of summer. While the car's profile is great with the hatchback, I do miss the versatility of the old two stage boot in the 3T. Ah yes, & don't make the mistake of hitting the boot release in a low roof carpark, or directly under a fire system sprinkler head. My wife did at the Novatel in Wollongong, but luckily I was close enough to stop the boot just before it hit the glass of the sprinkler head & concrete roof. The boot needs lots of roof space.
As a driver I really don't usually give a bugger about passenger gadgets designed to help give me a headache. It is fair to say though, passengers are impressed. Rear seat passengers just can't get over the legroom & refinements. my son & son-in-law, two notoriously hard to satisfy critics have been happy long distance back seat passengers. I never expected that ever to be so. The seat cooling is fantastic for me when driving distances.
I think now, after 7,500kms, I've had plenty of time to identify problems & for build quality problems to arise. There haven't been any. This car sold itself to me based on its specs & my reading of comments by British & European writers & owners. My experience with the car just reinforces my decision to buy the Superb 206 4x4 to be fully justified. Love it! Just as well, given VAG / Skoda Aust & most of their dealers, couldn't organise a chook raffle.
