    So many Skodas!!

Decided to drive to work today as I'm going to be working late. Within 5 minites of leaving home, I had spotted 3 Skodas -1 Yeti and 2 Octavias. Spotted another 2 on the rest of the 30 minute drive and another while walking from the car park to the office!!

Good to see that Skoda is obviously establishing itself well in Oz. I can remember a time not too long ago when I'd have struggled to see one a day.

But at the same time kinda sad my car is losing that unique status. Soon there'll be lots of Skodas running around and will be just like any other brand

That's not a bad thing. One thing that will always drag resale values down is lack of brand awareness, seeing more Skoda's on the roads might help combat that.

Secondly, if there are more of them here it might also keep part and servicing costs down while ensuring more accessories actually make it onto the shores.

In any case, people always ask me why we got a Skoda but once they get to see the car there's that nod of approval - nice!

You could always buy a Great Wall. I don't see to many of them.

I've just bought a Skoda. Lack of brand recognition was an issue for me. Orphans as I call them suffer from huge depreciation.

That said its a beautifully appointed vehicle, well made, and is a well known brand in Europe. I'm sure they'll catch on here.

That was the funniest question I got after I bought mine. A work colleague blurted out an incredulous 'Why??' but when I saw him a week later he said that he looked them up and was impressed.

Went through the same thing with a family member. Couldn't understand why we didn't get an Audi or Volkswagen when we told him when I picked him up from the airport in May (before we got the Superb). Collected the same family member from the airport in August in the Superb, and everything changed - was quite impressed and suddenly agreed with our decision. Don't think it'll tempt him out of his 5 series, but it certainly got the nod of approval.

    I love my car...!

but I find myself always falling into the habit of saying "its the same as a golf gti" whenever someone says "I have never heard of them "

sad but true way to compare....

Yeah, I tend to do the same with my Superb and say it's like the Passat.

At least that way people can get a perspective on what type of car it is.

I have only seen 2 other Skodas over the last three months .
One being my sister's octavia flashng lights, going the other way.
The other a a dark coloured Scout which appeared in my rear view mirror on the shortcut through Bankstown Airport 2 days ago.
I used to quite regularly see various model Skodas on the roads around my area. I put this down to the new VAG HQ for VW-Skoda-Audi, which was originally only badged Skoda, being not far away. There used to be Skodas around that facility at Chullora all the time, but I have not seen one for months. It seems the group is not wanting to promote Skoda through corporate or employee car visibility theses days. Only VWs appear around the joint now. One gets the feeling there's been a corporate group decision to throw weight behind VW. Someone else might know the rationale for this. Maybe VW numbers need boosting, or the burgamasters think Skoda brand can sink or swim on it's own.
For the life of me, I still don't understand VW groups marketing strategy. It seems to me it's main competitor must be itself, given nearly every VW & Skoda model shares a twin with the other badge.
As far as educating the uninitiated goes, tell them it's like an Audi; better engineered & more reliable than a VW!

I always say mine is like VW Tiguan but then I get some people saying 'What are they?'

I did see 2 other Yeti in the city on Friday morning another Platin grey and a Pacific Blue, both tdi.

There are certainly more in Wollongong since I bought mine. I can go to the local village shops and besides the M5s, Bentley Continentals there are always a couple of Skodas. I reckon there would be (at least) 2 Yetis, a Scout, 3-4 Octavias, a Fabia or 2 and probably 3-4 Superbs (all wagons). Having said that, Passat wagons are undoubtedly the most common VAG car in the area.
