Replacing brake bads

My car has done a bit less than 10K km... I'm thinking about replacing the brake pads with ATE ceramic pads... The 19" rims on the Superb are hard to clean and the brake pads are so dusty... I have tried the ATE ceramic pads before on my CC and they are great...

Can I just replace the pads or do I have to replace the rotors as well? I can see a bit of wear on the rotors but nothing major...

Just get the disks machined before you fit the new pads - with only 10,000km on them they will have plenty of life left in them.

At 10,000kms, I'd be inclined to leave the discs as they are.

New pads wouldn't require much in the way of bedding-in, and if there's no shudder, then I wouldn't worry about machining them. The Ceramics won't eat the discs at anywhere near the same rate as the OEM pads do.

I bought the pads already from HSY, a helpful bloke from the shop looked at the discs and said they will be alright without replacing or machining... I just need to install them now...

I always do my own brakes so i cant give you any info on labour costs. The only info i can give is that any more than 1hr labour and you are being ripped off....its a quick job, especially so with a hoist and the right tools.

Very interested in this topic. I may need new pads and disks on my Mk7 R only at 60000klm. The inside of the front rotors have deep grooves in them. I'm seeing if VW will cover this under warranty but if not I was thinking some dba T3's and remsa pads but I'm interested in the ceramic pads. Besides low dust how are these compared to the standard remsa pads regarding performance.

^ similar situation on my new car (2nd hand, 42,000km). Brakes were shagged. Look at the grooves in those disks. Put DBA T2 disks on and Winmax ceramic pads.

How's that setup working for you. I got T2's and remsa on my mk6 after your recommendations it it was fine, just want to go something a little better with the R.
