The New All Chrome Skoda Badge on newer models

I saw one today for the first time. On a car in the Westfield carpark in Parramatta.
My first impression is that it looks cheap & anonomous. Me thinks VW wants to kill off the Skoda name.
Somehow, I can't see BMW, Alfa Romeo or numerous makers with long established coloured enamel badges dumping their badge & history for a chrome shape. Some are readily recognisable, like Toyota, Mazda & Lexus. Not so this new chrome only thing in a circle; The badge you have when you don't really want to be recognised.
I reckon it will be lost among the Holdens at any decent distance.
    My first impression fwiw.

I didn't think it looked cheap but my first impression when I watched the new Octavia promo vid was that the car is anonymous. Unless you're a bit of a trainspotter type you can't tell what car it is unless you look at the rump where it has the only mention of brand name and model. At least with the existing badge Skoda was prominent and the green winged arrow stood out from the crowd. I'm also going to miss the model name moulded into the headlight surrounds.

Aww, shucks, as our American friends would say. That was one cool feature that I quite liked

The truly great badges don't change often. Look at Volkswagen, Toyota, Mazda, BMW, Merc, Ford, Chevrolet... I could go on... They have stayed the same for ages.

Toyota and Mazda are probably bad examples. The current Toyota badge was introduced in 89 and Mazda in 97 with neither evolving from previous designs.

No point being allergic to change.

Have to say I prefer the current badge - I don't buy my cars based on what the badge looks like, but I like the current one with green added in etc.

Maybe it is cheaper to make it chrome, and they're going to lower prices to increase sales?

That actually looks fine when you see it put like that. The core logo has remained the same since 1926 with only a couple of tweaks.
