I quite like the new badge actually.
A comparison...
New badge
Old badge
Now gone.... 2012 Skoda Fabia RS
I quite like the new badge actually.
SO new Skodas will not actually have the brand name anywhere to be seen externally. Given the poor brand recognition, new cars will probably be presumed to be "another one of those Chinese brands." The new badge being chrome, has been moved off the prominent chrome boss at the front. I reckon they could have just moved the old badge off that big chunk of chrome at the front & put it onto the paint work as they have done with the anon chrome job, for a more modern look, if that was the objective.
To each their own.
Do you guys actually do research about this or just say it? If you knew about the new badge you'd know that the name badges come with new badge fonts and a Skoda badge in writing on the bootlid. People will know even better what it is now.
See here's a new Octavia, with 'Skoda' written as well as 'Octavia'

Thanks Jake.
Note to all new Skoda owners: please don't park rear to wall.
Yes...we will have to put large banners across the car window: "this is not a cheap chinese car!"....
2018 Ralyee Green RS wagon. Fully optioned.
Previous vehicles:2015 Volvo V60 Polestar (my one detour from VW/Skoda!)
2013 Platin grey RS wagon / 2012 White Polo GTI / 2009 Black 125 Tiguan
The front end on the new Octavia is entirely different to the old one. There is no "big chunk of chrome" because the bonnet and grille have been re-designed. I have been considering buying the new wheel centres as I think they will complement the wheels. Even thinking about the new badges but last time I enquired the dealer said they were not available.
If anything, the "new" Skoda badge is a step in the right direction.
It actually returns the "original" 1926 logo, I don't think the previous logos could possibly qualify for a return, way too old fashioned and complex... I actually remember a similar logo design, and yes, it was chrome, on the Skoda's of late 70's, early 80's.
It puts a modern take on it and more importantly, it should ensure that we won't have fading and peeling problems.
As for loosing Skoda name from the logo, is that a problem? Skoda is well recognised in most countries and having name in the logo is kinda dorky. Would you expect Merc, BMW, Toyota, Mazda, etc, etc to have it?
You'd actually be pleasantly surprised about Skoda's brand recognition anyway, all European and Indoasian migrants will know Skoda and that's actually a sizeable proportion of the population. Everyone else is getting to know about it when they ask what the hell you're driving.

I think Toyota & Mazda still plaster their name all over the rear of the vehicle. I haven't looked at a BMW logo lately - have they dropped the name?
And seriously, Skoda is a well recognised brand in Australia?
Most of the European migrants came out in the 50s & 60s. They don't know Skoda from a bar of soap.
Indonesians? In the last Australian Census 73,500 people stated they were Indonesian born residents of Australia. In a country of 23 million. That's about 0.3% isn't it?

I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums
Well, I converted my car to the current new badge (Front & Rear). I actually think the new badge looks much better than the old style. I really thought the green emblem was outdated, antique looking and not where Skoda needs to be. There is the issue of the badges fading and losing colour. I've enclosed a photo of a friends Saab 93 series coupe which is only 6 years old. The badges front and rear are damaged and make the car look uncared for. It seems that a lot of European cars suffer with the same issue and there have been badge recalls in other camps. (Citroen, Alfa Romao, Saab) See previous thread which mentions about the badge recall on all Skodas built between 2010 and 2012. There was an issue with the clear coat peeling off and making the badge look worn along with the rest of the car. The Chrome badge stands out. It really makes the car look fresh. I'm guessing Skoda really wants to concentrate on marketing and pushing the emblem as being more recognised around the world. I mean, most large companies you don't necessarily need to see any writing or words near the logo before you recognise the product. I think Skoda is trying to do this and modernise it's image which is not a bad thing. Have a look at most expensive, quality european luxury cars and they have simple badges. Mercedes Benz just has a chrome three pointed star. Even VW have a simple chrome emblem so it only makes sense. See my vehicle (Skoda Superb) with the new emplem and I reckon it looks much better than the old emblem. You'll also see the Saab emblem which is where Skoda badges will go. No good for the Australian sun.
