Thumbs up 4x4 Superb to replace '09 Jetta (5 month order time) [Pics added]

Well the time has come to replace the Jetta. Opted for a Lava Blue Elegance 4x4. I think it's great that the model with haldex is now available in Australia. Despite the reduction in power down from 125 to 103, I think it will suit & plan to investigate something like a Viezu tune down the track once say 5,000km are on the clock.

Did a bit of a tour visiting three different dealerships around Melbourne for six months last year & went back to Richmond. Our first and last stop so-to-speak. Despite minor niggles with our Jetta, the main components (i.e. TDi, DSG) have never missed a beat so I thought the Superb would be as reliable, offer a little bit more luxury & have more room in the rear for our kids. Got a range of options: KESSY, sunroof, park assist, towing pack, tinting / blinds for the kids, three spoke wheel, flaps & roof rack. They did it for around $54k which I thought was pretty reasonable & the best of four quotes.

Recently the dealership was more than willing to let me know the VIN number. The well-known tracking website (https://att.2wglobal.com/gstattweb/) is certainly handy & is able to confirm arrival shouldn't be too far away (ordered mid-December, docks in Melbourne late-April).

    Overview:

    Voyage Details:

Throw in a few days of Custom delays, the ANZAC holiday & a generous 1-2 weeks for transport to dealership/pre-delivery, it will end up being just short of 5 months from order to delivery...all being well. I'm thinking that is pretty reasonable as there has been a range of info to the contrary the previous 12 months or so, especially that certain model variants or options (such as 4x4 & sunroofs) only make the order time longer.

Looking forward to 5-6 weeks time, especially to see how Lava Blue looks in the flesh.

    congrats on the purchase
i too waited 5 months, from order to keys in my hand, for my octavia.
t'was the longest 5 months i tell ya.

i notice ur ship is coming via the US. mine came via south africa, then across to perth.
in addition to the above tracking site, i was also using vesseltracker - asian emperor. u can track the actual ship, as it moves from port to port.

That sat tracking of the ship is pretty wizz bang.

I have had a Bluefin for the Jetta. It took three different maps before I got what I wanted with that (support from UK was great & first couple of maps felt stock with no improvement). I thought the Bluefin was good bang for buck together with dongle to return to stock if I felt the need but these encrypted ECUs have put a dampener on such devices.

Looked at a few options & Viezu idea seems good. It should give it best of both world. I saw $500 extra for the de-tune & haldex to be worth it, then up to $1500 to bring the 103kW & torque back up to where it ought to be.

Nice choice of color. I've seen the lava blue Superb our local dealer's showroom. Better than I expected. It's sort of somewhere between navy blue and dark green, which gives it a Jaguar look.

The one I saw is matched with beige interior. If that's your color as well, the whole thong would look $100,000 worth.

You may be luckier than me but I have a MY12 Superb and it has the ECU tuning protection on it. Tried to get a REVO tune but the glue that is applied to the ECU casing had been over applied and the tuner couldnt get it open without potentially risking damage to the ECU! Needless to say I conceded defeat as I didn't want to risk paying $3k for another ECU. Mine has the 125kw engine so the power is adequate for everyday use.

    It's here! Pics

Well here she is. Lava Blue is quite chameleon like most of the Skoda colurs. Ranges from green in low light, dark blue in medium light, or iridescent blue in bright light.

CREE Q5 DRLs - Photo doesn't do them justice. Happy with the $40 tweak via a seller in the UK. They are bright.

    CREE Q5 DRLs - Closeup

Nokya Yellow Fogs - Again photo shows sweet FA almost. Much better in the flesh.

I went mad with my existing VCDS cable:
    • Extended window demisting from 10 to 15 minutes
    • Enabled tear drop wiping (a final wipe 5-10 sec after wipers cease sensing they are needed)
    • Enabled both hazard & brake flash on emergency braking (still don't understand why VW or Skoda don't program this?)
    • Increased comfort indicator flashes from 3 to 5
    • Enabled correct trailer coding & advised park assist a hitch is present
    • Tweaked speedo so it reads more accurate (now only reads 3% high mostly, 4-5% at 110km/h i.e. speedo 115 actual 110).
    • Enabled door locking (via remote) when engine running (KESSY)
    • Removed phone bluetooth connection bong
    • Removed seatbelt warning

My towball wasn't programmed whatsoever (as in VCDS advised upon opening the trailer module that this was the first time it had been opened). Simple fix & now trailer appears on Columbus when connected) & I believe my driver's door lock/unlock switch is faulty (soft touch for unlock tries to lock, medium touch for unlock does nothing, and have to push in really hard on unlock for it to unlock when it feels like it).

I am a fan of yellow fogs. I just think in heavy rain others can help see me easier & likewise in fog, a yellow light is unusual & might be better seen. I use my fogs only when allowed & suppose I've previously jumped at the chance to use yellow given the law allows that...not exactly sure how that goes when cornering function is on though but never had an issue on the Jetta for the last few years. The Nokya 2500K are a nice deep yellow & bright. I replaced the halogen DRL for Q5 Cree LED. Very happy. They didn't come up with any bulb warnings and are very bright.

Congratulations on your patience Jase. It looks fantastic. I have not seen the blue in the flesh yet.
You have far better patience than I, waiting 5 months. I only buy what is available within Australia. That's why mine is brilliant silver. I tend to decide to buy a particular the tech spec & then find out what colours are available in the dealer network.

I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I do mine. The 191FSI really is a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing if you put the boot into it & absolutely fantastic with the 4x4 on wet roads. It really has a different personality, depending on how you choose to drive it; sedate limo or sports sedan.
