Question What is a resonable price for my MKV Golf TDI?

I would appreciate some advice please.

I am waiting for my Octy to arrive, so I am hoping to sell my MKV Golf TDI comfortline privately before I take delivery of my new wheels in the next 6-8 weeks (dont want to have to trade in unless I have to).

I was gifted the Golf a few years ago, shortly before heading o/s for 2 years, and it is only recently that I have taken an interest in cars, maintenance etc (I know, I know ). Subsequently, my Golf hasn't had as much mechanical TLC as it should have, and its overdue for a major service (its done ~139k km). Aside from that, body is in good condition and hasnt had any mods, other than tints, no accidents and not driven hard.

So, just putting it out there, what would a reasonable price private selling price be, taking into consideration the new owner should/will need to take it for a major service?

    TIA.

Year of manufacture or compliance date?
    DSG or Manual
    any factory options?
    Rego remaining?
How much life left in tyres and are the quality units or yum-cha cheapos?
    What colour is it?
    Any obvious problems?

You need all the above to determine a price.

Regarding the servicing, either bite the bullet & take it to Canberra VW Centre & get the work done or be prepared to dump the price more than the cost of the service. I'm sure CVWC can work with you to undertake the minimum needed to be up to date with the service schedule.

If you get the service done then you'll have a stamp in your book & this removes a Stop point from the buying process.

It's also worthwhile giving the car a wash, going over it with quick detailer or similar; make the tyres shiny with spray & wipe; clean all the interior with a microfibre cloth & mild detergent solution (make sure the steering wheel & gearstick aren't sticky);give it a vacuum; empty the crap out of the boot; make the windows sparkling inside & out; pump the tyres up to 36F/34R; clean the dust out of the engine bay (a rag & metho works well) & spray the engine cover / rubber bits with spray & wipe so they are shiney.

You want to make a good first impression & don't give them a reason to "go away & think about it".

Thanks for the tips Brad - much appreciated.

Year of manufacture - Aug 2006
    DSG
any factory options - No (but has AC and CC)
Rego remaining - end Feb 2015 - NSW
How much life left in tyres and are the quality units or yum-cha cheapos - 2.5yrs old and they are good year. New battery last year and had an oil change done in May this year.
What colour is it - dark grey
Any obvious problems - I noticed the other day the electric window unit in the back has broken. I did the front passenger window last year cause it was busted. Oh, and that the major service is overdue. My current (soon to be former) mechanic quoted $1500-2k for the major service, they are not euro specialists.

I am asking $8500, neg of course.

I now have a build date for my Octy, so I would like to be a bit more serious about selling it.

Most that will look at your car will look at redbook (Car Prices - Car Research - Search Car Prices & Values Online - RedBook.com.au) so plug your car in and it should give you an estimate.

if you sell through eg. carsales they will also show you recent sales / listings.

2.5 yrs old means nothing for a tyre. It's all about remaining tread depth. Lets assume they are roadworthy.

I'm not sure why you haven't got a price for the service from CVWc (your profile says you are ACT) - they're in Tuggeranong & Belconnen. It probably will be an expensive service if the DSG & Timing belt, etc need doing.

I guess it's up to your salesmanship to either get the servicing done & advertise at a higher price or say nothing about it & let the purchaser do their own poking & prodding to work out how much service work has been missed and negotiate down from there.

Your price is competitive so you should get some interest.

How much trade has the dealer offered?
