What was the price of a MkV R32 when new?

    Hi All

Does anyone know what the price of an unoptioned MkV R32 was when it was new? I've been looking at a lot of ads for used R32s and GTI Pirellis lately, and am interested to understand why, on an approximate like-for-like basis (age, km, configuration, etc), the asking price for the R32 is always several thousands of dollars higher

You could check on Car Prices - Car Research - Search Car Prices & Values Online - RedBook.com.au and choose the brand and model to have a look for the original price when new and current trade in price and private sale price.

R32's started at around the $55k mark for a 3 door + options and transmission choice.

The Pirelli was only sold for a short period of time, as a "hi spec" or "special" GTI, and was priced in between the normal GTI and the R32.

People are still asking $30-35k for a decent R32 with reasonable km's. Pirelli's should be no more than $20-25k these days. Normal GTI's can be had for under $15k these days (my mate sold his for $13k about a year ago with 125,000km on it).

See here for some info on the R32: VW Golf R32 good car, bad fit: Car Reviews | CarsGuide

The price given in this article ($54,990) would be for a 3 door in manual with no options. 3 door being the cheaper body style obviously.

    DSG $2500 option
    Leather seats $3300 option
    Sunroof $2000 option
    Sat Nat $2500 option

    etc etc

Thanks for the information. So it seems to come down to the fact that the R32 was a more expensive car originally. I'm not sure why, but the impression I get is that the R32 is more refined and GTIs, even the Pirelli, is more of a sporty, throw-around car - might sound silly for two cars built on the same platform. Perhaps, if that impression bears out, the R32 might be attracting a certain kind of buyer that keeps the price a little higher...just a thought.

What was the price of a MkV R32 when new?

It's the V6 sound of the R32 that people love and the fact that these are also AWD. They are probably more sought after than the Pirelli edition which is a bit of a niche vehicle (K04 turbo vs k03 on GTI).

Pirelli is definitely more tuneable with power of 200kWaw certainly achievable with a few mods... Though then you're still limited to running that through the front wheels so expect a bit of traction issues.
