The product disclosure statements are very similar. They both state that they will use non genuine parts - the cheaper excludes things like exhaust and interior trims. $100 more seems worth it.

Also, will servicing at a vw independent mechanic void warranty?

Non Genuine Parts? Run like the hills!

Seriously, it won't be worth the paper it's printed on.

No, servicing at a non dealership mechanic will never affect your warranty, that's if it's the genuine VW factory one.

Right. Not sure how to get the proper vw extended warranty? It seems both the Allianz versions I was offered use non genuine parts..

Generally though, there aren't going to be aftermarket engines, dsg gearboxes and major components. So as long as those parts are genuine it really isn't a big deal to me. I've got no issue with a non OEM wheel bearing/radiator/etc.

If you read the PDs carefully you will see that the So called VW genuine Extended Warranty is actually Warrant INSURANCE and is underwritten by Allianz. You can buy the same thing from a broker cheaper than from most dealers.

You CANNOT buy it direct from Allianz This page may be helpful

EDIT: Okay, so there are three types of warranties. Wow. Only the 'official VW branded' Allianz warranty uses genuine parts all of the time.

I think I may go for the Allianz new car warranty and take my chance with a non OEM DSG

Allianz warranty just paid out $3500 in fixes for my Jetta - new a/c compressor and condenser, new drivers power window and new drivers seat base (height adjuster stopped working). Certainly worth the original investment.

Has anyone purchased an extended warranty lately?
I've rang around a few dealers, and they're all giving me much higher prices than what has been quoted here. Everyone I've spoken to has said they can't even offer a 3 year extension any more, only a 2 year - and at a cost of around $4000.....

This is for a December 2010 103TDI Tiguan (DSG)
Have the prices really increased that much? I guess they have to fund the recalls somehow

VW Germany is paying for the recalls, not VW Australia.

I think the prices are going up because more people are buying them, so captialising on demand.
