Read your policy documents closely - you want to look out for:
1. Minimum servicing requirements - do you have to take it to the dealer or can you service it any licenced mechanic in accordance with the logbook? Some warranties will lock you in to servicing every six months despite the logbook stating 12 months and it must be at an inchcape dealer.
2. What is covered (more importantly what isn't) - is key components such as dsg or drivetrain covered?
3. Is there an 'excess' or is there a maximum amount per claim or amount that can be claimed under the policy?
Inchcape dealers (particularly Subaru) always throw in an extra 3 year warranty with new cars as a selling point but when you read the policy document closely it is pretty much worthless and is just a way to lock you in the servicing. The Allianz one spoken about is pretty thorough, you only have to service in accordance with logbook at any licenced mechanic, does not have excess or maximum claims and the exclusions in the policy are minimal / stock standard items such as tyres, batteries, etc.
Given it is a MKV and hence a used car, I imagine there are a lot of limitations but I could be wrong.

Hey Watevs, that sounds like an extended used car warranty, not extended new car warranty.
Hi
Been doing some shopping around for this today using most of the contacts and deals listed in this forum as a guide. Just waiting on one final price and ill update again. Just wanted to point out the following, which most dealers will not unless you specifically ask.
3 main types of warranties
VW warranty(underwritten by Allianz); Full bumper to bumper warranty. Warranty items replaced with genuine VW parts. Also includes VW roadside assist.
Allianz 'New Car Extended Warranty'; Full Bumper to Bumper warranty. Replacement items may be repaired or of 'Comparable' quality. Does not include roadside assist.(although minor towing (up tp $150) is incldued)
Allianz 'Assured" Warranty. As per previous but also excludes(from the PDS)
- Wheels, tyres, paintwork, panel and body work
and their components, including but not limited
to; handles and hinges, sunroof panels, antenna,
lamps and lamp units, weatherstrips and seals,
components made of glass and/or trim or decorative
components.
- Interior trim components including, but not limited to; seats and seat mechanisms, seat belts, carpets,
cup holders and ashtrays, components made of
glass and/or decorative components.
I have been told buy a dealership that they no longer sell the Allianz products because they have too many issues when trying to claim.
I guess, as with everything, you get what you pay for!

No, you can buy non vw warranty from dealerships. They all act independently on this and all have preferred suppliers. Just in the specific instance, vw burwin stated they don't sell the Allianz product.
ah ok. I just cant seem to find anything on the vw australia site re the VW warranty. youd think they have something on it. where do you read up on it ? is there a rrp vw charge for the gti mk6 golf for 3 year extended warranty ?

Hi alebonau
For genuine article give Eric @ VW Burwin a call..He quoted me $1795 for 2 yr unlimited km VW warranty(keep in mind my car is '09 118TSI with Low kms)
Overall it depends on the model/age/kms on your car, but i found the following to be the best:
Kathy Wood, Business Manager @ Klosters VW: 1300 584 163. She was the cheapest for what I was after. Mention my forum user id when you speak to her.
I also found Anna Hayward, Business Manager, Moss Vale Motor Group to also be quite competitive. (02) 4868 1055
In the end, i went for the Allianz Extended Manufacturer Warranty, Extension of time...that is, 3year extension up to 100,000kms. I'm still under <30k and only do approx 10k/yr
Hope that helps!
