We picked up our new Jetta 2 weeks back and paid $1615 for the 3 years warranty from Allianz

Ill start by saying SORRY if this is a stupid question.

I have never ever bought extended warranty or even enquire about it. I am in the market for a MKV GTI which is the biggest car purchase I have made.

    - first of all can I only buy EXT WTY if a i buy the car from a dealer?

    - are there different type of covers?, reason being I want a DSG, and from my research it will cost me an arm and a leg to fix if something does go wrong with it. I was told even though i buy the EXT warranty, it will only cover up to a certain amount?

Any other information will greatly be appreciated.

    Hi there

I've been doing my own research lately...

You can still buy a warranty if your car is purchased privately HOWEVER the car still needs to be under manufacturer warranty. Being that your looking at MK V i'd say you'd be just missing out

There are different covers and prices range greatly. even though a dealer may tell you its an extension of full manufacturer warranty be wary. it pays to read the pds...

I have received the following quotes for 09 Golf 118TSI, 26500kms...

VW Deer Park - uses AIG??(Automotive Insurance Group)...>$2k
VW Camberwell - uses Swann Insurance...$1595

I found a website vwextendedwarranty.com.au and they quoted me on Allianz product, which i believe is the VW preferred that gives 100% manufacturer extended warranty with no claim limit..quote was $1413...for 3 year extended...winner so far but i will shop around based on some of the posts from others

    Hope that helps!

Just came back from the dealer today with my new 90tsi (with sunroof & park assist).
Dealer manage to convinced me to purchase extended warranty (3yrs) for $995 as well as comprehensive with volkswagen insurance for $1,300 (excess $650, age 30 & 27).

But after coming home, I did a quote online and came to around $800 with NRMA. Allianz and AMMI quoted well above $1,300.

    Thoughts?

If the $995 is the full extended warranty (underwriten by allianz with no limits in terms of claim) then that is a good deal.

Given NRMA is $800 you got ripped on the insurance. The good news typically with insurance (you would need to check your policy details to make sure) is that it comes with a 14 day cooling off period so you can just ring the dealer back and cancel them if you don't want them anymore.

    hey people

Considering purchasing a MKV GTI this weekend, it comes with 3 years Inchcape protected warranty up to 175000km,...has anyone had any experience with this type of warranty? What i would like to know is....

Is this type of warranty any good?
any pro's and cons people have had with this type of warranty.

The main thing im worried about is to pay around 27k for a car and 6 months down the track have to fork out another 5k or so to fix the DSG gearbox or anything for that matter.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

    many thanks

My understanding is that that company is across a few dealerships, so wont be the insuring party, just an agent. I have used them, and they were fine, but am yet to claim anything. If its Allianz, that's the VW preferred.
I am interested in how it got up to 175,000kms? Mine was up to 160,000km or 3 years whichever.
