I've got the new unlimited km warranty that came out this year and it includes roadside assist. I suppose the old one didn't include it?
yeah I know assumptions are the mother of all f*** ups.
I honestly thought the assist program was a subset of the warranty and as I extended the warranty I automatically extended the assist program too.
oh well... too late now
EDIT: however the reason for my breakdown was a know manufacturing fault by VW. VW fixed it for free. There was no bulletin for the known defect and VW left it for the parts to fail and then repairing/replacing for free.

ziggy, it sounds like you got the vw branded unlimited 2yr warranty that comes with roadside assist. the regular allianz warranty does not.
I am p155ed off VW changed their branded warranty on 18/1/12. I would guess most drivers wait until they near the end of their 3 year factory VWA warranty and then look around for the best product as if the car got written off, any warranty pre purchased is probably kiss your money goodbye? Anyway I bought a 3 y 60,000 k warranty 30 months ago on a Golf from Eric @ Burwin for around $1100 - good value now as we just got a repair done costing $5,800 with 4 months to go so I would not be without it now. Heading off to get a new quote for a Tiguan I see that this 3 year warranty changed to 2 y unlimited Kms with roadside assist. Well even at $1700 for two years this is one big price increase and works in Allianz's favour as I expect they know most claims peak in the 6th year of ownership or around the 80,000kms so changed the policy. Unless you drive huge distances the older policy was much better. Eric @ Burwin VW stated the VW branded warranty uses VW Geniune parts whereas the Allianz can use any parts, even wreckers parts if deemed suitable taking into account the age of the vehicle. But here begs the question, if you take a repair to the nearest VW dealer, surely they only use VW geniune parts? / and how many after market parts are available for these types of claims, eg DSG gearboxes, Engine parts, steering gear parts etc, especially Electronic parts.
I am tossing up between the $1700 2 year Unlimited warranty VW policy or even going the whole hog and seeing what I can get for the 48month 200,000 km Allianz policy but I reckon I would be better off with the 3y/100,000 km policy for around $1200 but Eric prefers the VW policy but I dare say his commission is greater on that than the Allianz policy - horses for courses. Ah it was so easy before now they make a gamble - which one do I pick.....(where's that crystal ball?)

Daft009 So, its good the warranty works.
What was the known manufacturing fault?
Inquiring minds and all that...
MY09 Golf Candy White 2.0 TDI Pacific
MY95 Golf III TDI
Valve Body - Solenoids, low pressure - worn out after 80,000kms, at least 50% of this travelling was freeway 100Km/h driving - go figure. Over 12months ago VWA decides to alter the "sealed for life" to change the oil and filter in the Auto (Non DSG) at 60,000kms. These Germans have a habit of changing their minds.... (timing belt interval !).
Current ride: 2014 Range Rover Evoque 5 Door TD4 Pure | 9 Spd Auto | Fuji White | Black Leather | 19 inch 'Dynamic' Wheels

Well, glad that ordeal is over
Finally purchased my extended warranty for my R36 today from the wonderfully helpful lady that is Michelle Traill at Klosters VW.
She was very helpful and patient in outlining my options and assisted me to make the best decision that suited my needs.
Her pricing was also by far the best i'd come across, so i'd highly recommend you giving her a ring to she can assist you also.

Hi Pash,
Which extended warranty did you go for and why? My GTI is fast coming to that time too so a decision is required!
Thanks,
I went with the Allianz 36month/75,000km extended warranty primarily because I wanted 3 years of coverage rather than the maximum 2 years offered by VW
