Thanks Ziggyboy. I get that, but that still doesn't explain why some people are describing their warranty as 3yr/100k

Therefore, like so many others before me, I've called around all the usual suspects looking for best price on extended warranty for my MY09 R36 Wagon & thought I'd share my findings (probably worth noting I mentioned VWW to all dealers)...

Southern Classic Cars - Only offers VW genuine. 1yr $3500, 2yr $4300. I figure this is list price

    Gold Coast (Rob/Judi) - VW genuine 2 year $3107, Allianz 2yr/50 $2278, 3yr/75 $2565

    CCC (Joel) - VW genuine 2 year $2900, Allianz 2yr/50 $2162, 3yr/75 $2393

Burwin (Eric) - Only offers genuine VW (on Passat at least) 2yr $2488

    Klosters (Page) - VW genuine 2 year $1700, Allianz 3yr/75 $1900

Klosters are a clear winner on all fronts & I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with the Allianz 3yr option. The way Page explained it is that the only real difference is the non-VW policy has no roadside assist. As others have stated, same repair procedure where you take car to dealer / repairer of choice, the car is repaired & Allianz invoiced. So I should never have any direct dealings with Allianz.

Hope this helps some people - with MY09 R36's anyway

One thing I would like clarity on though, is alot of people are stating that their Allianz policy is 3yr/100k. My info is that 75k is the max available with 3 years? Would obviously prefer 3yr/100 if available??
Thanks for this info Nico, very very useful for myself also owning a 2009 R36 Passat.

I will have to contact Page @ Klosters and I think I will also take up the Allianz 3 year option on mine.
Are these warranties transferrable with the car once you sell it?
    Dino.

I'll be interested so see if Paige does actually do these figures Dino. My bloke reckons it's an error and impossible.

If the prices are genuine, she can have my $$$ as well.

To answer your question Dino, yes t is transferable to a new owner. From page 15 of the Allianz New car Warranty PDS...

    2. Transfer of the policy
If, during the period of insurance, you privately sell your
vehicle to a person other than a motor vehicle dealer,
cover under your policy will continue with the new
    owner, provided that:
    a. you complete the transfer form contained in the
back of this policy document; and
    b. you return it to us accompanied by:
    • a copy of the Scheduled service records;
    • copy of the vehicle’s Roadworthy certificate or
    inspection report; and
    • the policy transfer fee of $75 including GST (do
    not send cash); and
    c. the person named in the transfer form as the new
owner observes all the terms and conditions of your
    policy.

After looking at those prices I'm glad i decided to take out the Alliance 3 year 60,000km warranty last march 2011 even though my car still had 1 year left on the VW warranty and for $1438 i now consider it a bargain seeing what some are now paying .

Obviously these things never get cheaper - I have just purchased a new Multivan should I buy now or wait....?

Also I dont ever plan on letting the dealer workshop near me (purchased from different dealer) anywhere near my car even for warranty work. I plan on using a mechanic which I trust and runs a pretty straight show. Is this going to be a problem down the track if I need to claim?

Nope. As long as he is MTA approved and stamps your service book, it will be fine.

The extended warranty says that if you're too far from a dealer certain mechanics can perform warranty work.

guys, got a bit of a problem and I'm not sure where I stand and who is right or wrong.

    1. Car had to towed last week as it broke down in the middle of homebush bay drive/centenary drive.
    2. I have the official VW extended warranty underwritten by Allianz, 9 months into the extended warranty till date.
    3. Tried to claim the taxi fares and am now being told the official VW extended warranty does not extend the roadside assist side of things so I have to pay the towing bill.
    4. I never renewed the roadside assist side of things as I was under the impression that the official extended warranty extended the roadside assist side of things too!

    huh?!?

    It's quite simple.
    Read the policy document.
If it's included in there you're OK.
    If not,it isn't.
You did read it first, didn't you?

I was told by Camberwell VW that the roadside assist is not included in the extended warranty and it's an optional extra around $250 odd.

He also informed me of what appears to be a 3rd 'VW equivalent' warranty option underwritten by Swann insurance? He says that is the highest selling so far at Camberwell VW?
