This was one thing that worried me, as Allianz might select their own "solution" to your car problems as most insurers already do now with insurance claims. Would they really be ok with you to go have your car fixed at a VW dealer for twice the cost over one of their recommended mechanics???? I sure as hell know they wouldn't be for an insurance claim!

That said, I went with the 2 year/unlimited km genuine VW extended warranty! The conditions is literally everything that's covered in your current warranty, just add 2 years I called VW just to confirm it and they did. They said I absolutely get 100% of what I get now with my 3 year warranty for 5 years. I'm a lot more satisfied with that!

My Allianz new car extended warranty covers everything my current VW warranty covers. I can take it to a VW dealer or a VW specialist and use genuine parts. They don't tell me where I can take my car to be repaired.

You know the VW extended warranty is underwritten by Allianz? So there is very little difference.

That's flawed logic though. I know VW warranty is underwritten by Allianz, but it is VW that decides what gets to be done in the case of manufacturer's warranty. The policies are different. With Allianz warranty it is Allianz that decides what happens. I'm looking at the Allianz new car warranty PDS and this is what it states:

"replace the component(s) with componentry of a similar type and quality as the component(s) used in your vehicle"
    and
"may direct you to an Allianz preferred repairer"

VW dealers will NEVER direct you to an "Allianz preferred repairer".

In contrast, my genuine VW extended warranty states:

"ensure that the authorised dealers replace the parts requiring repair or replacement with Volkswagen Genuine Parts (r) or Volkswagen Genuine Exchange Parts subject to availability"

It does say that. When I spoke with Allianz on the Phone they say "will repair with genuine parts". Like them to find a non genuine DSG.

Like to know where you got that from cause I can't find it. It says this:
"Take your vehicle to the dealer who sold it to you, if this is not posible, the closest authorised service facility of YOUR choice"

And what if you live a couple of hundred kms from a VW dealer?

So all they have done is reword a few things, put Volkswagen on the front of the PDS and charge you double the price.

Thanks, but the key word is "may"

I've spoken with an ex head mechanic of a VW dealer and Allianz warranty is so much more relaxed compared to VW manufacture warranty. You don't have to send the faulty parts back unlike VW. Send Allianz the invoice and they pay.

The differences are so minor I'm not worried. Hope I don't ever have to use it!

Ziggy is right, page 10 of the policy does give Allianz the right for the repairs to be conducted at a location of their choice, 1.c. dot point 3. How often would this happen, who knows, but by buying the Allianz policy you are giving that choice to Allianz, and that is a fact.

There are other subtle differences btw the two, more favourable to the VW, of course at a cost. Rough estimates are that over two years it may add up to $400-$500. Somehow i don't think a DSG replacement at KMart auto will make up for the possible savings!

I guess the whole point of knowing all this information is being informed and making a choice that best suits what you believe is right for you.

Don't know about everyone else, but I find it a bit frustrating that everyone talks about the awesome warranty deals they're getting from various dealers without sharing car/policy type & cost with the rest of us VWW folk!

Therefore, like so many others before me, I've called around all the usual suspects looking for best price on extended warranty for my MY09 R36 Wagon & thought I'd share my findings (probably worth noting I mentioned VWW to all dealers)...

Southern Classic Cars - Only offers VW genuine. 1yr $3500, 2yr $4300. I figure this is list price

    Gold Coast (Rob/Judi) - VW genuine 2 year $3107, Allianz 2yr/50 $2278, 3yr/75 $2565

    CCC (Joel) - VW genuine 2 year $2900, Allianz 2yr/50 $2162, 3yr/75 $2393

Burwin (Eric) - Only offers genuine VW (on Passat at least) 2yr $2488

    Klosters (Page) - VW genuine 2 year $1700, Allianz 3yr/75 $1900

Klosters are a clear winner on all fronts & I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with the Allianz 3yr option. The way Page explained it is that the only real difference is the non-VW policy has no roadside assist. As others have stated, same repair procedure where you take car to dealer / repairer of choice, the car is repaired & Allianz invoiced. So I should never have any direct dealings with Allianz.

Hope this helps some people - with MY09 R36's anyway

One thing I would like clarity on though, is alot of people are stating that their Allianz policy is 3yr/100k. My info is that 75k is the max available with 3 years? Would obviously prefer 3yr/100 if available??

There are 2 ways these warranties are quoted. Note these 2 are the same product:

3yr/60,000 kms (means additional 60,000 kms to your original warranty)
3yr/160,000 kms (means total of 160,000 kms to your warranty)

I think yours is likely 75k in addition to 100k, so a total of 175k.

My quotes for the genuine VW 2yr/unlimited km warranty for my MY11 Jetta are:

    $1230 - Barloworld Mascot
    $1507 - Gold Coast (Rob)
    $1900 - Blacktown VW
