Did you buy the VW original extended warranty (underwritten by Allianz) or the dealer extended warranty?

It is the original VW warranty from Allianz, when I bought the car VW were only offering 2 years warranty extension option.

If one wanted to get really picky, one could say that diagnostics are not covered by VW in the first three years either.

Let's say you go in with a car that's behaving badly and after diagnosis it's found you have used the wrong oil and your turbo is shat due to worn bearings. VW rejects the claim - who pays the dealer for the diags? You do. If VW accepts the claim, the dealer would get paid a standard fee for diagnosis when they bill VW for the repair job.

I think in most cases the dealers will carry the cost of diagnosing even though they don't have to. One of the reasons service costs are higher than going to a normal mechanic.

    From some experience....

AWN are useless so much paper work has to be filled out by customer and service centre.

Allianz-VW goto dealer get approval and hey presto its being fixed no major hassles only one being is courtesy car dependant on the dealer I think.

I have raised a similar thread in the Mk6 one (as I bought one for my 1mth old GTI a few days ago to get the 30 June special) and paid $1,726 (down from $2,590 RRP) and was told that I could get one from Sydney (same Ts and Cs) for $1,400 from someone inthe MkV thread. Not that I am caring about $300 or so, but I recall a couple of years back when I looked at a MkV it was a lot cheaper at $1,500 or so. Did VW actually increase the base cost when the Mk6 came out??

The thing is, absolutely nobody in QLD in normal times for a Mk6 (not sure of Mk5) was going into the $1k+, all were early to mid $2ks. I got a lucky score from my dealer after a mate tipped me off that the Passat he had (09 TDI) had its 3ryr warranty discounted from $3,600 to $2,400 and that GTI was going to be the same. I guess more competition in Sydney? Anyway I think it is great piece of mind and a lot cheaper than extended warranties from Land Rover or Audi (all go through Allianz too).

    Illbe getting the Allianz one.
Competitors do add an extra 100k not 60k but I like the idea its on the VW database and the dealer does the claim work (if needed)
Price for an 2008 R32 with Allianz seems to be swinging around 2k +/-. Normal Golfs etc are a lot cheaper.

So why wouldn't you just buy from a Sydney dealer? It can all be done remotely

DIdn't know that - QLD must be ripping off its ppl if a lot of NSW residents are getting warranties for less than $1500!
