I've discovered that the 2008 2.0TDi DSG GT Sport I'm looking at was first registered on April 3, 2008, so it's 2 days out of new car warranty. Does anyone think I have a chance of getting the new car extended warranty for this car - I'll call the dealer here to see what he has to say, but anyone else have any suggestions about what I should do?

Call Rashid - you will find his contact details further up the thread. I don't think it will be an issue.

Thanks for that triode12 - I called the local dealer and they said no dice... but that was before I read your response. Called Rashid, he was in a meeting and so a fellow named Amit took my details and rang Allianz on my behalf, they have said that if I supply them with all the details they need, they will assess my request on the basis of the history of the car. Not a guarantee that they'll play ball, but better than nothing at this stage. I live on the mid-north coast, but if the guys at Chatswood go to this trouble, it would be my pleasure to go to them for service...

    Keep you posted...

If you can't get the extended factory warranty you'll be able to get the used car warranty. All is not lost.

Not as good as the new car warranty though. If it's been serviced at VW regularly for it's life you probably won't have issues. Rashid or Nathan should be able to help you out.

Thanks all for your input. Still waiting, car rego was first done on April 4 2008, and I spoke to Amit on the 5th, and David Haddo yesterday (Amit was elsewhere, and Rashid was on his day off) but my request is in the system somehere I'm sure. They seem very keen to help, so I'll keep you posted.

The car is a private sale, so should I not be lucky enough to swing the VW full extended warranty, will I still be eligible for the used car warranty? It has been book serviced by VW dealers since new (last one at 60k in Coffs where the car lives), and has full history available. I confirmed my purchase of it yesterday anyway, can't wait!

Just a quick note - had a communication from the guys at Chatswood VW (Amit, David and Rashid - been taliking with them all the past few days), just after 5 this afternoon and they've sorted the full VW extended warranty for me!

I can't speak highly enough of each of them - polite and keen to help doesn't seem enough. Don't know how much till tomorrow, but their service has been just fantastic. I live near Port Macquarie, but will definitely be keen to give them my service business if that's the way they treat distant customers!

you're aware that the warranty doesn't tie you to a dealer or the VW service network?

Thanks Brad, yes I am, and I do have an excellent non-aligned mechanic here in Port Macquarie. Not sure how competent non-specialists are with complex beasts like these little automobiles... What's the consensus here?

That you've wasted your money on the extended VW warranty if you plan on taking the car to non-specialists because they won't be performing the work to the standard that VW/Allianz will require for a warranty claim. Will the non-specialist know the correct oil to use in the engine for example? Either take the car to a VW dealer (which is best especially under extended warranty) or to someone who is a specialist and has been recommended via the various forums.
