Has anyone is Brisbane purchased a VW extended warranty for a mk7 comfortline recently and if so what the details are? I'm trying to work out where to buy one that matches the original new vehicle warranty that comes with the vehicle when new. I bought my car from bryan bryt but thats a no go now from what I understand. VW contact us website just refers you to the dealer network :/

Just been talking with a VW dealer this morning. I was quoted $3,000 for our Mk7 golf comfortline for the 2 year Allianz underwritten extended warranty. I was also emailed a copy of the PDS.

I didn't talk to them about how much room to move the price has, but i expect a bit as that's higher than I was expecting.

Stop buying extended warranty and worrying about 'contracts' that limit warranty.

1. Under Australian consumer law, there is no minimum or maximum time for warranty, it rests on the type of good and what is a reasonable time a good should last. For example, given that a car is replaced every 6-7 years, it is reasonable for a consumer to expect that car to be free of manufacturing defects for 6-7 years.
2. A seller is obligated to fix faults regardless of time.
3. If they refuse, simply lodge a case in the small claims court making the point in 1. and 2., you are pretty much certain to get a judgement in favour. this only costs $100ish

If you read the many judgements from small claims, they have always ruled in favour of the consumer.

for example, a case where a flat screen TV died in the 3rd year, the warranty was for 2 years, the court made the case that a TV should last 6-7 years since that is the average time people replace them, and as such, the seller had to either replace, repair or refund 4/7 of the price paid (as the buyer only got 3 years of use from what should have beeen 7).

hence when buying new goods, i never buy warranty, you are already protected from faults under consumer law.

consumer law agencies have already said many times, extended warranty is a waste of money, and that limits to warranty is not fool proof, cosnumer law always overrides attempts to limit warranty.

My gti is 1 year old and I'm looking into extended warranty

One VW dealership quoted me ~3300 for an additional 2 years and roadside assistance.

I was wondering if anyone has done better than this and whether anyone knows if I can buy this later one just before my 3 years runs out?

By the sounds of it, the warranty you are being offered is the VW-branded Allianz-underwritten one, which guarantees VW genuine parts and that any warranty work will be done by an authorized VW workshop.

There is another one which is basically the same, except it's cheaper and not VW-branded, with only two differences of significance in the coverage:

1. The repairs may or may not be completed by a VW workshop, and they can use non-genuine equivalent parts.
2. The warranty extension can be up to 3 years instead of being limited to 2 years.

Assuming it's one of the Allianz or Swann-underwritten warranty extensions, you can purchase the new car warranty extension at any time while your car is still covered under the manufacturer's new car warranty.
