    Hmmmm. $238 difference.

Might be worth reading up on the turbo failures on the 1.9 TDI, particularly with Caddies.

You might wind up thinking $238 is peanuts.

That depends on what may go wrong in the next 3 years ,i paid $1438 for a 2009 GT diesel and i consider it as an insurance policy
Believe me a replacement DSG gearbox will cost well over $10,000 .

Ready to book my Golf 2.0 TDI GT in for 75000km service (first service since I bought the car), and although I know this has been debated before on this thread, does the VW/Allianz extended warranty compell me to use a VW dealer? I discussed this with my (excellent) independent mechanic, and he was doubtful that he could do the work without voiding my warranty.

Elsewhere in this thread it's been stated that I can use a suitably equipped and qualified independent mechanic without risking my warranty. What's the current considered position with regard to this matter?

The answer is in the thread but if you want to confirm it read the PDS as it tells you specifically what you can and cannot do.

As long as they use proper parts (OEM or genuine), you can use it to anyone. I used an independent and had no problems claiming under warranty (my VW specialist even did the warranty work). If you have any doubts, ask them over the phone.

    Slightly interesting situation have occurred.

I've made 2 claims on my extended warranty cover and I've just lodged a building insurance claim yesterday. Who would've thought they're related. Guess what, Allianz have reported those claims to insurance reference services checks and now it's causing a bit of a headache for my building insurance claim.

Maybe it's just my insurer being pedantic (Buzz) or I'm just unlucky.

If you're legit then there shouldn't be anything to worry about, kick up a massive fuss if they are hesitating.. They gotta pay up, thats what insurance is there for.

Well it's all sorted now. I've never doubted it that for a second but I'm just surprised Allianz will record that on my insurance file.

Heck, I didn't even know there's something similar like a credit file for insurance until today.

It's not surprising that insurance companies keep a central register of claims. The reason is the level of fraud that is perpetrated by claimants.

You know the type of mentality - "those big greedy insurance companies take all your money and never pay out"

I personally can't think of anyone who would insure with a "small" insurance company for a start, but I know of plenty of criminal claimant activity.

Most fraud is perpetrated at proposal time, when people leave out material details which would cause the proposal to be rejected or the premium loaded. Then at claim time the lie is discovered and the big bad insurance company gets the blame.

Hi just wondering if anyone can help with current dealer contacts who offer discounted extended warrantys, as the ones listed in the forum have moved on. My warranty is about to expire and I need to arrange this ASAP. Thanks in advance
