I received the cancellation notice today from Allianz. According to the letter, I am getting a full refund!
Now I just have to wait for the cheque to confirm it.

He will give you the same discounts that I was giving. his email address is rashid.mahbub@inchcape.com.au

haha i just read through 41 pages of this thread, and i'm still confused:

    1) if i buy a GTI which is out of the original 3yr warranty, i can only buy the extended used car warranty with the $2k cap?

    2) but only if i bought it from a dealer, not private sale?

    3) if i buy new or if i buy a used car within the original warranty, i can still get the extended new car warranty? does it matter if the car was bought from a dealer or private?

Please enlighten me, before i head out and get my golf

    thanks

I emailed Rashid, who put me in contact with Michael Demian, Business Manager at Inchcape. He rang me up, we has a chat, and gave me a very good quote. I then took out my credit card and paid. He then emailed me the relevant documents. Easy!

Thanks Michael, for you excellent service.

I have a R36 wagon, the local dealers quoted $3590, Michael quoted me $2250!

From what I was told when I bought my car recently all 3 points are correct.

    1) Fine said 2k limit per repair (ie 2k max for dsg, but if you have, say suspension fault also, that is another 2k).
    2) Only from dealer, thats what the dealer said :-P.
    3) I was told that I can purchase the warranty anytime before 100k.

Kind of crap that you can only buy an extended warranty if the used car was from a dealer...(vw or non-vw i presume)

stealerships already hike up the prices of their cars.....

I think the reasoning behind it, is that there is some level of trust from dealers that car isn't stuffed at the time of buying the warranty, and the fact that the insurance is marketed by VW ( and underwritten by Allianz) has something to do with it.

Its understandable why they would only sell to dealer sold cars. I mean, I can't think of anything secondhand off ebay that I would be able to buy warranty for. The dealer would need to inspect the car for existing faults etc.

Maybe i'm biased cos the dealer really looked after me. :-P.
But agreed, they do hike up the prices.

This is the sort of thing that gives car salesmen a good name. Thanks to Jamil, who was a prince to deal with and best of luck to Rashid.
